Namesake[edit]

There is absolutely no support for the claim that he might be named after some player guild. Such claims should be supported by a reference in my eyes as otherwise it's vanity and any guild can go start claiming something was named after them is the name is vaguely similar. Colonel Custo sounds more like Colonel Custer to me, but that's also conjecture and unsubstantiated. If anyone has a reference or source for the namesake, by all means, put it back in with the source, otherwise leave it out.--Fogeltje 10:37, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

colonel Custer seems too obvious a reference. add it perhaps? --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 10:44, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
It does to me, but since I removed that guild thing, I find it prudent not to make that edit myself. I'm sure removing that guild name will incite some wrath as I have seen other editors remove it only to be promptly reverted. But yes, to me Colonel Custer seems too obvious. That's how I found this page when I fought Custo just half an hour ago and wanted to check if he was indeed named after him.--Fogeltje 10:51, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Colonel Custo could be a reference to the famously outnumbered Colonel Custer[1]. forgot about fagmins.--File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 11:03, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
dont remove pvp notes without asking pvpers first -Auron 11:06, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
This is Trivia, unsubstantiated as well. If you have a source for this, provide it and I'll be silent. This claim has been disputed by a few editors by now, so a source should be provided instead of simply undoing edits. You haven't even tried to explain why that note should be right. Just because the word "Custo" happens to be the first five letters of the word "Custodian" does not make it so. Please be a bit more constructive and don't just revert.--Fogeltje 13:05, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
This is trivia about a boss named after a famous PvPer from a famous guild. Also, it's fact. -Auron 13:11, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Then why didn't you just say so? I ASKED for a source and already mentioned I would let it rest if a source was given. Instead of just unconstructively reverting you could have just pointed out that talk page mentioning it.--Fogeltje 13:13, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Also revert yourself whenever. -Auron 13:12, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

never heard of the guild[edit]

Were they suppose to be good or something?

They were one of the best American guilds, yes; probably third after iQ and rawr. They invented the thumper build in factions beta weekend events and ran it in GvGs soon after. Many of their members were in more or less constant contact with ANet in regards to balance issues, and most of them got GW2 alpha access early (including Daemon, one of their guild's forum's webmasters, who wrote several early reviews of GW2 pvp before that game even hit beta). They were pretty influential and well-liked in their time; iQ had a few annoying personalities and rawr were "disliked" for winning so much, but pretty much everyone got a good time out of obsing Team Quitter matches. -Auron 18:18, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
