Quebec

I realize that quebec has some stupid laws on international contests and such, but a large large portion of the players live in quebec. isnt it a bit unfair for us quebec players? how much is the fee anyways for this contest to be available in quebec? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 132.205.14.134 (talk).

Sadly it's not just international, but national contests that often get exempted in Quebec. I'd contact your local MLA, as Anet is just one of many that must skirt around Quebec. And you're right, there is a large fan base that is getting left out because of it. G R E E N E R 20:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

The short story seems to be that the requirements for Quebec are different from the rest of Canada. Most companies aren't willing to spend extra money to reach 8 million more Canadians, when they could spend the same effort to reach Serbia, French-speaking Algeria, or more in other countries.

A quick Google search reveals dozens of posts about how lots of contests aren't available in Quebec. I couldn't find a working link to the specific rules (nor could I find it on the provincial website), but here's what the bloggers and business have said is in the way:

• Quebec requires rules/etc to be translated into French (the province's official language) — I'm sure ANet isn't willing to do that.
• Loto Quebec requires additional rules for certain types of contests (again, I can't find the specific language, so this could blogger's misinformation).
• Quebec requires that some of the earnings end up remaining in Quebec (not sure if this is an additional tax on the winners or on the corporation).

However, it might also be the case that these rules do not apply to contests with total rewards below a few thousand loonies and that companies simply don't bother to research the Quebec rules. Therefore, if you are interested in seeing ANet expand its candidate pool to Quebecers, contact your provincial or parliamentary minister's office to find out the exact rules. Then, assuming the rules aren't onerous, try to find the right person at ANet to review their own policies excluding Quebec.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:57, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
