About moving this page[edit]

11th December user Shard created the new page "Staff of the Forgotten" and moved the previous existed content to the page "Staff of the Forgotten (unique)" with motivation "non-unique version exists". In my opinion, it created lot of problems but the advantages are doubtful. Here are my points:
1. The advantages: I can understand that idea behind this moving was that every non-unique item should has the correspondent article; in the case when both unique and non-unique items with the same name do exist, the unique item(s) should be marked separately as (unique) and have the special page, other than page for non-unique item. Because this staff exists as PvP reward, this idea has been implemented here directly without taking into account the consequences.
2. There is another approach used in the cases where a number of different items have the same name, here is an example: Ancient Scythe. In this approach, a page which explains the ambiguity with images and links is created, no one of items has a privilege above other items. User can select the desired link or image. In our case, the relatively rare and PvP-specific item got a privilege in compare to number of well known end-of-game reward items.
3. After creating the new page, author made a redirection of its Talk page to the original, already moved, Talk page (I removed redirection but left it inside HTML comments). The possible idea was: all discussions about these items should be in one place, no sense to have a separate discussion for the PvP item. Also author made a wrong "ambiguity" section on the article page, which I fixed next day.
4. Last but not least. I checked the links to the article with old name and new one:
Special:WhatLinksHere/Staff_of_the_Forgotten
Special:WhatLinksHere/Staff_of_the_Forgotten_(unique)
After creating the new page, about 170 links became wrong, because now they lead to the PvP staff, not to unique end-of-game item which was before. Responsible author should carefully check all these links and fix all which need (almost all, I suppose). Nothing has been done.
5. My suggestion is: restore the original page "Staff of the Forgotten" and create the page "Staff of the Forgotten (PvP)" with current content. Add the ambiguity note on top of both pages with proper links. In this case, all existed external Wiki links become correct again, nothing to fix. --Slavic 10:05, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
