Required[edit]

Again I'm not sure if this page is actually required. If it is, maybe it should be a category, but then it would possibly conflict with the current Tools (specifically wiki tools) category.- TheRave User TheRave sig.jpg 15:03, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Also there's no need to have a wiki page about MappingOut, instead of listing it as an external link such as most of the other "tools" in this article. Erasculio 15:07, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

This page seems to be connected with mine. My comment is that for the casual player, it is hard enough to find what they really need. The more links there are and the most descriptive it is, the easiest it is to navigate to other places they may not have thought of looking for answer. Since we never know how someone will use words for search, I think important to have flexibility and a bit of redundancy. Paryll Nur 22:21, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

This page is required to inform users of the potential effects of third-party programs. ANet takes a strong stand about informing its players of the potential effects of third-party software, and since this wiki cannot vouch for any third-party software, the note applies to all third-party programs whether or not they actually have harmful effects. And so the article should remain for that reason. (Terra Xin 09:29, 8 September 2008 (UTC))
There seem to be a discrepancy between what Emily Diehl write on the page, what is being written here and what was done to my page. I would suggest strongly to have a little corner for these sort of things. Maybe linking out only from this page. That should constitute ample warning. WikiWWW has the most restrictive policy of all the other Wikis out there. To me that represents a symptom on how this Wiki is administered. This being said, to start a discussion, maybe at another place or in policies. To my humble opinion, the question needs to be asked about having more restrictive views than other Wiki sites of the same level of professionality. Paryll Nur 04:37, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Basically what Emily is saying is that it's OK to use mods, but that's it. In regards to the wiki, the articles on the main-space are supposed to present information that is about the Guild Wars game and anything endorsed by either Anet and the Guild Wars website (like the list of fansites). People are a bit iffy about listing third-party software because of Anet's stand towards the potential harms of any third-party software. Bottom line is that we shouldn't be listing information on main-space articles that have to do with Third-party software - other than the information about the general use of third-party software because that info is endorsed by ANet. All discussion pages and the User-space can, within reason, present information and links to third-party software. Wiki may or may not provide information about third-party programs and more specifically fansites depending on how the policy progresses. The issue with TextMod is clouded, and is only there due to the general consensus, and because it has a lot of pages that link to it. Personally I don't get why that page is on the mainspace.
