can someone please a) remove the parameter and then b) run a bot to go through and subst: the inclusions? - Y0_ich_halt 15:23, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- Why and why? (just curious) -- Brains12 \ talk 15:39, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- style and server. also, to indicate the number of ecs we've been adding x2 all the time and ddn't have any problems with it :P - Y0_ich_halt 17:12, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- Improving it doesn't mean you have to be fixing something broken :P. I'm sure we didn't complain when we wrote out edit conflict ourselves, but this template just made it easier. Just as we may not have complained that we had problems with x2, the parameter improved the template. You don't even have to use it, just let it stay as {{ec}} or, if you really want, {{ec}}x2. The parameter is helpful, in my opinion. :::I don't mind if existing usages of it are substed, but I like using it without subst -- the whole point of this template is to show an edit conflict as easily as possible. Having to type out {{subst:ec}} would be more than (ec) or (edit conflict). -- Brains12 \ talk 18:55, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

- Ya, I'm not a big fan of the parameter also. It just appeared one day and I was like "Huh? What's the point?". As for the bot run, why does it matter if it's subst? When it's not subst, it makes the page easier to read when looking at the raw text. — ク Eloc 貢 23:42, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- because raw text always strains server less than a template inclusion. and the parameter makes this raw text unneccessarily long, because subst: of course also keeps it. - Y0_ich_halt 09:10, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- After a lot testing with substitution, the only solution I found was using a second template (or using {{ec|<amount>|subst:}}) for substitution. Otherwise it was not possible to provide a template with both functions (include and substitution) where the substituted code was without any parser functions. So for substituting, use {{ecs}} now. poke | talk 11:24, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

- nice work :) - Y0_ich_halt 12:28, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Not really.. I would like to have one solution for both :P (wtb <substituteonly> tag :P) poke | talk 12:31, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- especially since now it's even more stuff to type >.> i'd request a button be added to the format help button bar. - Y0_ich_halt 12:39, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- more stuff to type?
{{subst:ecs}}
instead of{{subst:ec}}
? :P poke | talk 14:44, 19 May 2008 (UTC)- (Edit conflict) <- test - Y0_ich_halt 15:17, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- if i use subst:ec it's even longer than before, so i have to type
{{subst:ec||subst:}}
to effectively reduce length. - Y0_ich_halt 15:17, 19 May 2008 (UTC) - is there a way to make it be substed with or without parameter? - Y0_ich_halt 16:58, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
