Most games in the past decennium suck. some suck less than others, but compared to the 90's, electronic entertainment has been mediocre at best. Graphics are souped up at the cost of gameplay (which is what the kids see first right? dumbshits!), Every year another CS clone comes out with even more realistic and thus less enjoyable gameplay, and do not get me started about the sports games being crapped out every year with barely any change.
Among this pile of shit, you can find a game that sounded very promising the first time I heard of it. It was so awesome, one of the most memorable games was getting a sequel! Neverwinter Nights 2 was coming! Words cannot describe my excitement at that point, but all I got was utter disappointment.
Visually, the game improved a lot. Well, at first, that is. You want to make a character and get to playing immediately, but immediately I ran into a brick wall: system requirements. This game came out around a year before Dragon Age: Origins, and that game runs fluently. Why does this piece of shit have to be so difficult about it? Oh well, my other PC had not trouble with it, and I got past the first bits of adventure, and got into a dungeon. And that is where the shit begins.
Let's start with the camera. It sucks. In a following mode like Dragon Age, the camera gets stuck behind walls very often so you do not see what your character is doing. If you have played Hidden and Dangerous, you may be familiar with this atrocity in gaming. What were they thinking? Also, top-down view is not a lot better. It is very limited, even when scrolled out. What was wrong with Baldur's Gate and Planescape:Torment? You had full control over the camera, and by no means the games were easy. Why do you have such a bad view? I have no idea.
The difficulty is a joke. Partly because the AI is bad, but also because the game is not designed to be hard like Bioware's masterpieces. Breaking the game is easy (pick anything with /Frenzied Berserker or go single-class Druid, take the most broken feats and go), especially when you go solo. There is little reason to take another character other than a cleric and the occasional thief for trap-heavy dungeons. Why does the game have to be so true to the D&D books when even those are imbalanced? It makes no sense.
Anyway, I uninstalled the piece of shit. The original is still miles ahead.
