The Shattered Dreams of a Cat

Here we are, lying and exchanging witty word play;
Sharing small talk, and wasting our life away.

Although I cannot deny the bliss this moment brings;
My love for you cannot be dismissed, close to my heart it clings.

I find myself day dreaming whenever my eyes meet your gaze;
Dreaming of what could’ve been if our love stayed ablaze.

Where would we be now, my dear?
Would either of us ever shed another tear?

Or would we find ourselves sharing each passing day?
Hand and hand, your trust I would never betray.

How would we feel now, my dear?
Would an ominous cloud bring about our greatest fear?

Would we realize that we could’ve been that way forever?
Or would we fall apart through our dedication, our endeavour?

What could’ve been, my dear?
I cannot help but wonder, for you are now here.

A constant reminder of so much potential;
Long ago I realized that your presence was essential.

Here I sit, lost in wonder.
To you, would I become a blunder?

Or would we carry on, just as I envision?
I suppose in the end it is all your decision.

For I am but a fool to crave more than you already give;
And yet without your love it is only in contemplation where I truly live.

Here we are, my dear;
