Destruction Chess[edit]

This is a variation of the Chess template from Wikipedia made to play the Chess variant Destruction Chess.

The usage is very similar:

Rocket Chess[edit]

Rocket Chess follows the normal Chess rules, with a slight variation:

When a piece is captured, rockets are sent to the top, bottom, left and right of the destination file for the capturing piece (the way a rook could move). These rockets fly until they hit a piece, be it of the same color as the capturinng piece or not. Exception: King and Queen can not be hit by rockets.

A piece that has been hit by a rocket is marked with an additional x (e.g. blx).

Pieces hit by a rocket must be moved in the next turn or otherwise they will be destroyed, also making them unavailable to Promotion.

Just to make this clear, you don't have to move pieces hit by a rocket, if you don't mind losing them.

Bomb Chess[edit]

The same rules as Rocket Chess, but instead of sending rockets, a capturing piece places a bomb that hits all surrounding files, destroying any pieces that are not moved the next turn.

Examples[edit]

User Y0 ich halt RocketChess.gif

Look at the animation to the right. We assume the player choses to capture black's Bishop by moving the Pawn on e4 to f5 (e4xBe5). The pawn captures the Bishop and sends four rockets, of which the one to the right doesn't cause anything.

Now it's black's turn. This player now has two pawns that have been hit by rockets. The one on f7 can be moved and thereby saved, the other one will be destroyed.

After that it's the white player's turn, who will have to move his affected pawn (f2) away from where it is if he wants to save it.

Variations[edit]

Friendly Rocket/Bomb Chess[edit]

In Friendly Rocket Chess, all pieces allied to the capturing piece are immune to rockets/bombs (i.e. "friendly fire" is disabled).

Deflection Rocket Chess[edit]

If King or Queen would be hit by a rocket, they do not simply "absorb" but instead deflect it back to the piece where it came from.

Bomb Rocket Chess[edit]

A combination of Bomb and Rocket Chess: Rockets also affect all files around the file they hit, just like bombs.

Nuclear Chess[edit]

When a Pawn checks, all Pawns of the other color are eliminated.

Cluster Chess[edit]

(Requires dice) When a piece is captured, two dice are rolled to determine the number of affected files (3...11: 1...8 files affected, 2/12: no effect). The capturing player may then decide which files will be affected by bomb clusters.

Stun Rockets[edit]

Instead of killing hit pieces, rockets only prevent them from moving. (So for example if a white Knight is hit by a rocket in black's turn, and white decides to move a different piece, the Knight can't move in white's following turn.)
