My Project[edit]

I am working on this little template...

User:Chik_En/template/skilltemplate/

If you wish to help leave me a note here..

I do not have a lot of time however so it has been slow to progress and its is not pretty yet either. Chik En 04:20, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Are you trying to build something that allows the skill template to auto convert on a wiki? If so, have you looked at http://gwshack.us/ ? The GWBBCode can be ported to wikis - although it does impact the site's performance and can cause notable lag. In fact, the site http://www.pvxwiki.com/ has already modified a custom version of that code specifically for wikis. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 01:21, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the info Barek I already have my own PHP code (User:Chik_En/template/skilltemplate/extension) that does this actually. Also in using my own code I made it is now part of this wiki LIC and not need to worry about anything funky :) I just need to port my code into a wiki extension which I do not know how to do just yet. Heya. I noticed the comment you'd left at Help:Ask a wiki question, asking if there's a way to add "a file for every skill" to the wiki, and I see that you've already begun doing so manually. Since there's 1100+ skills in GuildWars, this project would be pretty massive. I think it'd be better if you put this on hold for a while, and wait for some more community feedback regarding your project. Anything this major should ideally be discussed first, it may very well turn out that there's no interest in something like this at all. Hope that makes sense. Cheers, --Dirigible 19:20, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I am able to add these files rather easy actually and I can also remove them just as easy within a day if it does not work out. I am fully prepared to clean up any mess I make :) just as much as I am willing to spend the time to put the files in I am willing to take the time to remove them if this turns out to be unwanted / unused. Chik En 19:32, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
That actually isn't true, a sysop would have to go through and delete every page you didn't want manually. This would definitely take a lot of someone else's time if it did not work out. --Lemming64 19:34, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
So your saying I have no control over tagging a user page for deletion? Being that they are user pages I recalled that the wiki would let me do so. Chik En 19:36, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Who do you think deletes it after you tag it? --Lemming64 19:37, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
An admin can choose to review it if they wish but if they are just user pages they can just select to delete them all. I would not think the interface would stop them from multiselect user pages for deletion. So they could all be approved for removal at the same time once the first 3 or 4 were looked at.Chik En 19:41, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
You actually have to go to each page, click delete and type in a deletion reason for each and every one, if you don't have a nifty plugin I don't know of. Not that I'm either for or against this project, just telling facts :) There might be some other means, but not any way to select masses of articles for deletion, iirc - anja talk 19:45, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I am a programmer I can automate anything I really wanted to.. AND NO I DO NOT automate playing the game... I bought it for playing not having a computer play for me. Anyways it seems that even doing this within my userpages is a bad idea so I will cancel my project. No worries. Chik En 19:50, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry if it seemed like I was telling you off, not my intention :( - anja talk 19:51, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I second that Anja, I just wanted to explain how this fitted in in the grand scheme of things, we definitely welcome any innovations, but if you discuss this with some other editors you may find some shortcuts you had not thought of previously. --Lemming64 19:52, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
As I said... No worries... It seems one person trying to do what I was trying to do is not ideal. I am new to wiki.. I just figured it would be cool if I could build what I visualized for the wiki. You were not the only person who thought I was nuts :) read above.Chik En 19:54, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Version2[edit]

I have begun work on a version 2 of my skill template project.

It solves some problems I have had with nesting to many templates (from what I could determine)

As a result I am adding files in the following fashion

/skilltemplate2/Profession/# /skilltemplate2/Attribute/# /skilltemplate2/Skill/#

where # is the integer value that represents the contents within.

I am done all professions and attributes and now working on skills.

With the new way I believe it will be more flexable as a common formatter is made for each Name so I can link to already done templates for formating and altering it in future as new things come along without having to edit each skill file.

My Apologies[edit]

I seem to have attemped something that I should not have...

So I will simply retract what i have done and go back to playing the game.

It has been interesting. Sorry for any hassles. Chik En 19:46, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Do you want me to delete the pages at once, or do you want me to wait the three days specified in our deletion policy? :) (You can also add {{delete|user request|speedy}} as deletion tag to the rest if you want them removed at once) - anja talk 20:19, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
You can remove them at once if you like. I am just tagging them now to remove them. I can add the speedy tag if you prefer.Chik En 20:21, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
If I have your comment (as you wrote here) I don't need the speedy thingy. I'll go ahead deleting them then :) I'm bored! :P - anja talk 20:24, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Laff ok no problem.. my user page and guild page will stay but the rest will go. Chik En 20:25, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I Removed my GWW:RFC since there is no longer a project to comment on. I hope that is ok. I am certain this will be my last attempt to help the GW community directly it just never seems to work out. Chik En 20:43, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Removing text[edit]

Discussions should never be removed, you can archive them if you wish, but please don't outright delete them. --Lemming64 20:46, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I was just cleaning up and leaving the comment that ANJA needed. So how do I do that then? Chik En 20:51, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
You can use the {{archive-box}} template to make a link on this page, then simply copy the text from your talk page that you consider a closed discussion to a subpage of your userspace like User talk:Chik En/Archive or something along those lines and you are good to go. --Lemming64 20:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
