Festival Music[edit]
Thank you for answering my question on Regina's talk page! If you would be so kind, could you please explain to me how I could extract the Wintersday music from the .dat? Or could you show me a link or website that describes how to do that? I would be grateful! Also, which song in the Sorrow's Furnace pack does the Halloween music come from? Thank you. --MushaTalk 23:36, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- Well you can grab the extractor from here [1]. The link's at the bottom of the first post. There's also a GUI for it available here [2]. It's a bit flaky, though. Basically you need to be extracting audio files (MP3s) from the dat file. This also allows you to get lots of music that's not on the Directsong packs. You'll also see that Soule actually didn't do a lot of the music in Factions ;) The downside is that the gw.dat file contains no filenames, so all the files are going to have names like 49561_Sound.mp3. And I can't just give you the numbers for the good stuff from my dat file, because they don't seem to be the same for everyone. If you're running Windows Vista or 7, you can tell it to display artist information. That will make it easier to distinguish music from sound effects. Of course, the music files tend to be the largest files, so sorting by size will help, too. Like I said, the Christmas music is 1,148,256 bytes, so you should be able to find it once you've extracted the music. As to your second question, the Halloween music mostly comes from "The Latch" and "Sorrow's Furnace", though I think I've heard it play other tracks from the Sorrow's Furnace pack. Those are definitely the two main Halloween tunes, though. See what luck you have with the dat extractor; if you need more help I'll try to provide it though it's been a while since I used it myself. -- MrSmiles 17:11, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
