I'd bump it all the way up to +40; +6 AL isn't really tremendous. Also, I know it's a ward, but that makes it counter-intuitive: "To stand in this ward, we're going to all ball up in AoE." Perhaps make it like Aegis, acting on allies in range, then staying on them for the duration, even if they move out of range? User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 16:59, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Personally, I prefer it to stay a ward. It may be cumbersome to use, but that's the charm in having different skill types. As for the amount of armor, armor hurts elemental damage a lot (more than melee with their armor ignoring attack skills). I'd rather test it at 30 armor (combined with the weapon suggestions I made) and see wheter caster damage is countered sufficiently. When it's still too weak, we can up the armor value. Too much passive defense is often considered boring by players, let's not overdo it. And even then, I'd vote for +5...33...40 armor instead, to make sure teams have to bring an Earth Elementalist for it, not SFway it.
