Discussion

Recently there have been a lot of overpowered builds based around rangers or assassins wielding.... scythes.

Rangers and why scythes are overpowered for them:

Most scythe attacks are 5 energy as they are balanced for dervishes. Rangers can reduce the cost to 2 with 13 expertise. Plus, they can use Escape leading to "sway" builds.

Solutions: Make bows do a lot more damage and decrease the bow attacks to 5 energy(mostly). Why does a dervish get to spam +31 damage bonuses with a faster weapon for less energy? And don't complain that "rangers are utility". 8 skill limit, remember? A ranger would either be able to spec damage OR interrupts OR conditions, or a bit of each.

Assassin scythe builds are also imbalancing due to their critical damage.

Solution: Make daggers actually useful and quit nerfing them.

Not sure where I should put this suggestion, but what if you had mysticism control how many adjacent foes you attack with a scythe?
Which makes scythes still the biggest hitters in the game, but without the AoE+Critical benefit for assassins Byakko 12:03, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Rangers are utility because it's not hard to condense interrupts, conditions, and damage on the same bar if damage skills get buffed. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 06:07, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Also, all this would do would be to force people to decide if they want insane amounts of ranged or melee damage. This game already has way too much damage and defense going around. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 06:08, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Armond's issue - 16:41, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Issue
Hey I can crit for 200+ damage and spread deep wound to three people at once!
Suggestion
Reduce scythe damage to 8-30, reduce maximum number of targets to two. Ideally only one target at a time, but I'm pretty sure you won't like that idea.

Shard's Issue - 25 May 2008

Issue
Scythes have three problems:
 • They do too much nonskill damage on critical hits.
 • They do too much skill damage.
 • They have aoe
As they are, one scythe assassin or scythe ranger can solo a monk, only because of the sheer amount of energy required to prot/heal the ridiculous damage.
Brilliant Solution
Despite how drastic this suggestion would change physicals, I am going to request it anyway:
 • Criticals add +40 Attack Rating (double damage) instead of the current +20, but use a random number in the weapon's damage range instead of the maximum.
 • And increase Axe max damage so it isn't obsolete anymore.

Shadows issue

Issue
Ranger and assassins primary attributes leave little in the way of restriction of the energy management gained from attacks
More Brilliant Solution
 • Make Critical Stikes Dagger only
 • Make Expertise Ranger skills and attacks only.
 • ????
 • Profit!
 • Only for PvP ofc.
Why is Brilliant
Kills the builds everyone knows are overpowered.--Shadowsin 19:58, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Why is Stupid
see my comment here
this game is about synergy and unique builds, making primary atribs only effect there profs skill removes secondary profs from many builds Githyan 15:29, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

OrganizedOP's issue

Discussion

The problem is assassin and the rangers who uses scythes, which they can out perform a dervish in PVE. Nerfing a dervish's weapon, who are already COMPLETELY replaced by warriors due to their Elite called Warrior's endurance in GVG is going to be stupid. I can't even get into DoA Hardmode party(domain of anguish) thanks to a assassin using a scythe is more preferred.

So basically, in GVG, warriors are always taken over a dervish (current meta). In PVE, a scythe using Assassin are always preferred over a dervish. I don't know if you'll ever understand this frustration I been having for the longest time.

Here's a good thread discussing this: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10337117&highlight=ranger&page=2

Some quotes includes (if you don't feel like reading it, I'll quote the main points): "The Assassin has more critical strikes (which are _awesome_ with a scythe, even in hard mode and after armor), the better IAS and more mana. It's simple math. The Dervish can never win. I also play both (Dervish even was my main for a while) and from my experience, the Assassin is seeing bigger yellow numbers more often."

"Dervishes are not the best damage dealers with a scythe. So the best role for Dervish can not be scythe damage dealer. So ... what is it?"

"And ... yeeesss, A/D is more powerful, but it's pretty much always going to out-DPS a primary Dervish. The combination is broken IMHO, even if builds in this strain aren't in general. I have no idea how ArenaNet can fix the problem, though, assuming they even will..."

Solutions: Make apply poison into a bow preparation. Don't let expertise effect scythe skills. Assassins are self-explanatory from the quote above. Or give Dervish a permanent increased IAS via Heart of fury. Please give a dervish a role they can actually play, we already have it worst on the current GVG meta or even PVE party because A/D and R/D can outperform us with the scythes, which doesn't even make sense. What a retarded idea. Are you sure you want perma-IAS gimmicks spamming Hammer Bash every 6 seconds? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:71.174.24.158 (talk).

RoxasXIII' issue

Issue
Assassins and Rangers are better with scythes than Dervish.
Solution
The primary attribute of Assassins (Critical Strikes) should be daggers only.
The primary attribute of Rangers (Expertise) should affect Ranger attack skills only.

Goril's Suggestion

Issue
As above :)
Sollution
Critical Strikes affects daggers only.
Expertise affects Ranger skill only plus traps and ranged attacks.
Buff the main Dervish attribute Mysticism.
