Channeling Channeling

Monks in HA -- 19:08, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Discussion

Issue
While I love this skill, it's used much more on monks than primary mesmers, and thanks to "channel-tanking" it's OP in HA.
That said, I don't want a straight-out nerf, since currently this isn't all that great in other places - for example, it's fairly balanced (IMO) in RA and TA (you see about as many Mo/W and Mo/A as you do Mo/Me, and even a couple of Mo/R).
Suggestion
I would limit the amount of energy it returns somehow. Ideally it would work so that an increase of the number of enemies has an inversely exponential effect on the energy gain (i.e. energy = Int(Enemies ^ 0.5)) but I think that would make for a slightly awkward skill description... :-). Thus, I would go with something more like:
Channeling Channeling. 5 Energy 1 Activation time 15 Recharge time.
Enchantment Spell. For 8...46...56 seconds, whenever you cast a Spell, you gain 1 Energy. If you are in the area of a foe, you gain a further 1 Energy and an additional point for every extra two foes.
This change would give the following energy gains:
Enemies 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Old 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
New 1 2 2 3 3 4 4 5 5
Thus, in small arenas it's only slightly less powerful, but in large ones it's much more limited. It's also more powerful when on your own or confronted by a single foe, balancing things out a bit. Another option would be to limit it to 1...7...8 Energy (which at the normal 8 Inspiration would be 5 Energy).

Issue
It's fine, I just want to see what would happen if bad HA monks couldn't run it anymore. It would also be nice if other professions had a use for it that wasn't counter-intuitive.
Solution
Instead of just gaining energy, steal it.
