Elite Armor

So if they use this idea, you have to grind to get the best equipment? We have low max stats for a reason: you don't need to grind to get max stats, and you need your own skills to win. This would totally ruin this aspect of the game, which is a giant factor for many people (including me) who don't have much time to spend on farming or don't want to. At a certain point, when elite armor isn't that rare anymore, high-end PvE would require you to have elite armor to participate without H/H. While certain builds are acquirable for anyone, elite armor isn't. It should just be for a better skin and the prestige it gives, not for better stats. --Sir Bertrand 18:24, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

You make a good point. Guild wars runs on a system when if something new and improving comes out, then that becomes the standard of play. Look at ursan, once players discovered how much power that elite skill had, its became mandatory to bring when you go to certain areas. Having this idea would hurt this game more than anything. Well, one other reason why this may not be fair is the fact that people who have the means of farming gold and materials versus those who don't. I do think that elite armor should be restricted to those who are either ascended or who have beat the game at least once on that character. This way, elite armor can be once again seen as prestigious. It means you've accomplished something, besides just having a lot of money. --ChristopherRodrigues 19:26, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Idd, would be the 'ursan mistake' all over again. More so, Ursan couldnt be bought with real money; elite armors can be. So this would encourage the goldfarming industry. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:217.122.225.60 (talk).

The problem with having just "a better skin" is that it is a matter of taste. Currently in GW 1 there are a number of armor sets that both my fiancee and I think that the non-elite version has a better skin than the elite version. A "better skin" is just in the eyes of the art designer. If the extra AC or rune/insignia slots are not seen favourably then what about a greater degree of customisation for elite armour. Have it so that elite armor can be dyed in 3 different places (like the guild capes) rather than just 1 with the non-elite. As for grinding that is the whole purpose of games to get further. The opposite of grinding is boredom. Why not start of as level 20 with every single spell and piece of equipment? That way you don't have to grind to get anywhere. Yeah that's a good idea. Also why don't we put only one mission in the whole game so that people who "don't have much time" can complete it easier! --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:138.250.104.91 (talk).

what i personally think is that elite armor sure is hard to obtain but its still creatable why dont we allow players to mix items up and create unique items to cutomized their amor eg:iron ingot + fur square = Iron Cloth (+5 def) --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Dracula456 (talk).

Seperating three discussion topics I distinguish here --Tenshi Samshel 01:19, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Cheaper elite armor

The purpose of something 'elite' is that it takes effort. Almost all elite armors are quite doable to buy without months of grinding, except vabbian and obsidian ofcourse. Decreasing prices or alike takes away all the achievement pleasure of finally getting your new armor together. --Tenshi Samshel 01:19, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Alternative ways to get elite armor

For instance by completing elite missions. Elsewhere green drops were suggested. This may be nice for some 'sub-elite' armorsets (the elite versions of normal ones, most costing 15k atm), or otherwise for some seperate sets (to show you have earned it rather than bought). Elite quest reward will also enable casual players to get an elite armor if theyre skilled enough without taking much time. --Tenshi Samshel 01:19, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Extra Bonusses on Elite armor

Bad plan. This makes normal armor non-maxed, in practice, and makes elite armor simply the new maxed 'normal' armor. Compromises balancing. Also if the bonusses are fixed (like with green weapons) the player will once again need to choose between functionality and aesthetics, which Im glad was dealt with after prophecies, you dont want an ugly armor just because its better for the job.--Tenshi Samshel 01:19, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

How about something different than 'Elite Armor'

If all the fus is about Elite armor, there might be another suggestion. Instead of elite armor how about when you kill a boss instead of sometimes dropping a Green Weapon it can drop a peice of armor? Problem Solved?
