ArenaNet talk:Guild Wars 2 suggestions/Green Armor
Implementation Questions
I think a lot of players would love this to be added, but there are probably some problems in implementation, maybe we could brainstorm over those. Firstly, customization. If the drops are customized upfront, thats useless, because you get for instance a bunch of warrior sets on your ranger; not nice. Customization could be increased to account-based, but then youd still be "in trouble" if you get the same green armor drop twice. Alternatively, the drops could be uncustomized and require customization before use. This would however allow new players to buy these unique armors with online bought cash, and thus would also stimulate the goldfarm industry. A way around this (see customization topic) is to have an unlocking system, requiring you to get a (for instance) lvl 40 character on your account before you can buy/use maxed items. The second method is also more rational, since an asuran who kills a giant shouldnt get a custom-made asuran fitting armor :P.
A second question is mainly rational. Say a Norn kills a boss Mosquito Queen. Now this may be a fiercesome creature, but her entire armor combined would barely be enough to protect a Norn's pinky finger. And even the best smith couldnt really turn that into a Norn breastplate. One way around this is to have the actual drops be from, say, slain avdenturers, or the queen's armor factory or whatever, but thats a bit far-fetched. Alternatively, the actual drop would be a trophy, and a smith could craft an armor around this, or make an armor resembling it. That way also it could be crafted into any profession's gear, though that would decrease rarity somewhat. A third option would be to say, who cares, we have asuran smiths who have found ways to expand or shrink those armors magically in order to customize them, problem solved. After all, armor doesnt tear apart when you suddenly form-shape into Balthazar either so a little unreality shouldnt be reason for riots.
- Theres enough metal in the mosquito's armor to make ten Norn breastplates XD. but seriously though,
- U can have the monsters drop a Unique Material, which you can take to a special armorer to make the armor based on the material.
Thirdly, rarity should be high enough to keep them at least on par with the 'lesser' elite armors in effort to aquire them. Thus people would still have ample reason to buy armor, because farming one takes long. Also this makes them more rare. Probably the drop rate should not be too low, to prevent grind, but they should be hard to reach, dungeons are an acceptable option I think.
As for item bonusses and stuff, I believe they should simply be insrcibable and runable, to prevent another aesthetics vs use trade-off. They should not be stronger or weaker than normal armor. For the rest, if other implementation issues exist, feel free to add them to this.--Tenshi Samshel 18:09, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. Like at the end of a dungeon you find a dwarf/asura/dwarf&asura, who will craft you sum Destroyer armour (oh yeah...) for 115 Destroyer Granite Slabs and 50 Cool Lava Ingots (which you can only acquire by completing dwarf quests) and they would cost 25-30k per piece. Elite Elite Armor. Get the idea? A lot of materials that can be only acquired by completing quests, and not farmed. We could also make them customised so players can't buy them - which would keep people playing. And then people can go farming as much as they want to get that 150k+insignias+dyes.Mechu95 11:38, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
My Turn
Works, let my try to expand on your idea, all five pieces will have a limited drop rate, but still pretty good, Armor can get damaged in the fight, who wants to wear a breastplate with a gigantic hole in it from a Norn sword?!?! NOT ME! These will also not auto customize allowing people to sell them, however you will have to take it to a smith to actually make the armor for you. Why can't you just use the holy piece? Because its hard to work around that freaking gash on it! So I think I just repeated what that other guy said, oops
Armor set ideas.
I like your idea about having rare green armor. And I think it would be cool. I have an idea for set armor. An example would be Armor of Shiro Tagachi. It would be a 4 piece set of assassin armor with Nightstalker's insignia and a Superior Rune of Vigor on the chest piece. you could add other runes to the other pieces of armor so you could work with your own build. But like green weapons it could not be salvaged. but you can remove the runes you added with out destroying the armor. That was just an example. I don't know how armor will be in guild wars 2. PS the set armor(like green weapons) would not be any better then what you could make your self.--Yozuk 07:46, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Preferably not fixed runes/insignia, I dislike the aesthetic vs usability issues. Aside from that, nice idea, but I'd want to dye it black then. --Tenshi Samshel 18:15, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
