ArenaNet talk:Guild Wars 2 suggestions/Guild Capes

I agree. While the capes are initially cool, it eventually gets frustrating to see that short little thing bobbing along behind you constantly. Anet did have a good idea when they came up with the cape system, but in GW2 a little variety would be appreciated. Your ideas are sound; depending on the guild and your class, you could have a cape, a shield emblem, a standard, or another similar kind of expression. Different ranks within the guild (and you could edit this system to make it more profound) would have different emblems. The leader, of course, having the most impressive one. Thus everyone recognises them. Oh: and people should have the option of where their guild emblem is displayed, just as how you decide when to display your headgear. So an Elementalist wearing a robe could wear a cape, or have the emblem on the front/ back of their robe if they don't like wearing a cape. Good idea, I see no reason why it shouldn't work.
