ArenaNet talk:Guild Wars 2 suggestions/Include areas in game for dueling

I like the idea of dueling just for fun, and to show individual skill in playing your character. However, I have played WoW and know what it is like to have a challenge spammed on you. I propose having a duel area in each of the capital outposts where people could fight their duel in the safety of town and not out in the open environment. This area would be like the Dragon Nest during the Dragon Festival. It would be an enclosed area in which only the participants who are dueling can enter, but it would be a part of the capital itself so other players could observe the duels.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it would also be possible to arrange specific duels between players in a confined duel area by using the queue system as is used in the arenas. If a person just wants to duel for fun because he is bored or doesnt have anyone in particular to duel against, he can speak to a guard who oversees the arena and enter a random pairing. He could then be put in a waiting list until his time to duel has come, in which he could then fight another opponent who used the random pairing. I suggest it be done as a waiting list that can function as a lineup of players, so the players eventually get their duel. If it was done like the pairings of the current arenas in GW1, only 2 ppl can be in the arena at a time, so others would just be given the "opposing party could not be found" error. Those two people then have to try to enter again and hope by random chance that them 2 are chosen among the many players who want to duel. Doing it in a list format would prevent this inconvenience.

Also, if a player wishes to duel a friend or challenge a rival, he could speak to the arena guard and say he wants to enter an arranged duel. The guard would then ask for the character name of the person being challenged, and the challenger would type in the person's name much like is done on the friends list. A window would be sent to the challenged, like a trade window pops up, stating that So-and-So wants to duel you. If the challenged accepts, he and the challenger would be put into the waiting list for available duels. If he refuses, he can not be challenged by anyone for say a minute or two. This would prevent spamming. Also, the challenged and the challenger must be in the outpost *or better yet, within earshot of the arena guard*

Oh, and i just remembered, perhaps divide the players into level brackets, so lvl 5s dont get upset dueling lvl 20s :)

I believe this is a simple way to provide the much sought after art of dueling to the Guild Wars community by using elements and procedures already in use currently in Guild Wars. I hope you appreciate my ideas, and please, critique me in any way you like :D
