DirectSong in the sound options panel

DirectSong was a service partnered with ArenaNet that allowed players to purchase soundtracks composed by Jeremy Soule for various games, including soundtracks for each Guild Wars release, as well as various minipacks and unlockable bonus music. When DirectSong music is playing in the game, the DirectSong icon in the Options panel will light up.

Past Offerings (for Guild Wars)[edit]

Soundtracks[edit]

Expansion packs[edit]

  • Guild Wars Battle Pack One (320 kb/s) $5.99
  • Guild Wars Prophecies Sorrow's Furnace Mini-Pak (128 kb/s) (free)

Redemption codes[edit]

Notes[edit]

  • DirectSong no longer allows the purchase of Soundtracks and Expansion packs, nor the redemption of Collector's Edition codes.
  • There is presently no way to download previously purchased or redeemed content from DirectSong.
  • Previously acquired WMA (as opposed to MP3) copies of the expanded soundtracks still work in-game. The following requirements must have been met:
    • RegisterDirectSongDirectory.exe has been used to add the folder containing the DirectSong WMA files to Windows' registry.
    • A compatible GuildWars.ds file in the DirectSong storage directory. This file contains the playlist to be used by the game; using an older version of the file will prevent newer music from being played ingame.
    • A compatible version of Windows' wmvcore.dll in the Guild Wars directory. The version provided with Windows 10 no longer supports the technology used to verify and allow protected wma playback.
  • Due to an unintended side-effect of how music is triggered during cinematics, any added tracks set to play during cinematics will not play. The only way to trigger playback of these tracks would be to manually edit the GuildWars.ds file to play them in other scenarios.
    • An incomplete listing of tokens used in the .ds file can be found here.
