I think you should be cautious about the fact that you don't feature Mounts in Guild Wars 2. I personally think it's not a bad idea to have Mounts removed from an MMO but due to the fact that you will be able to discover high latitude environments, I think you should consider replacing airborne Mounts with a descending feature.

My suggestion is that you add a feature such as; a skill called Parachuting for the Engineer profession maybe? And a skill called similar to Parachuting but looks good for the Sylvari etc.

I'm talking about landing safely when jumping of a steep edge, descending in great speed and dives down through the clouds as the view is briefly obscured by the white moisture without dying. This way you will gain an even more atmospheric feeling of the game and give players another reason to experience high latitude environments in Guild Wars 2. I personally love climbing as high as I can in games to get a better feel of the environment since I'm afraid to heights irl.

Descending Feature[edit]

These are my ideas around the descending feature for Guild Wars 2. These descending styles will be used as a safe way of descending without dying. I've been tired of every MMO with a lack of secondary option when you trip and fall towards your death. You should really consider having a secondary option when it comes to falling and/or if you choose to jump over a steep edge for a variety of reasons. Here are my suggestions.

Races[edit]

I think you should consider creating a descending feature based on races and/or profession since all descending styles based on professions might not suit the races. In other words "would look stupid." That's why I have included unique racial-based styles. But in the end, you will make the call of including these descending styles.

  • Sylvari
    • Description: I would like to see a descending feature based on this race that looks like a tree crown/flower of some sort. The Sylvari race looks like shape shifting trees/plants with a humanoid shape which a shape shifting skill would suit them well. Leaves are another suggestion. I think that help from Mother Nature isn't a bad decision since the Sylvari was born from a tree. Summoning leaves for your final descent would look really good both in the game and for the player.
  • Norn
    • Description: Now, reading ArenaNet's description of the Norn make me think of a descending feature looking like the Norn shape shifting its arms into eagle wings. "They are guided in this world by their Spirits of the Wild, who embody the virtues of the mightiest beasts." Now, personally I think a shape shifting descent like this wouldn't look too shabby in Guild Wars 2.
  • Charr
    • Description: I cannot base a descending feature by reading their description because it seems they sponge on human technology and lives at a previous human residence. Therefor, I cannot give any good suggestions on descending styles that might suit the Charr.
  • Asura
    • Description: "Their mystic technology is found across the continent." "The diminutive asura are the smartest people in Tyria." They are smart and should have a really "smart" descending style. Something magical perhaps or something more of a concrete invention. I don't know. I cannot come up with any good suggestions for the Asura either.
  • Human
    • Description: What's a human? Erhm... A simple parachute would do them great in some nice silky textile.

Professions[edit]

Descending features based on professions is much easier than coming up with unique racial-based descending styles. But all profession-based descending styles doesn't look good for all races as previously mentioned. But these are still good suggestions of what might suit both races and professions.

  • Engineer
    • Type: Using parachute.
    • Description: My first suggestion that came to my mind for the Engineer was a parachute. The Engineer reminds me of a veteran soldier with his grenades and traps. This is why I wanted to keep a veteran feel to the Engineer as a parachute descent would look really good.
  • Thief
    • Type: Using its cloak.
    • Description: The Thief makes me think a little bit of Batman actually. I could imagine the Thief using his cloak to stealthy assault its enemies from great heights since the Thief should remain known to appear from nowhere like a real assassin.
  • Guardian
    • Type: Summoning angel wings.
    • Description: The Guardian to me is an angelic warrior of justice and courage and an angelic warrior should be guarded by angelic spirits. Therefor, I suggest that these spirits/angels support the Guardian with temporary wings for the final descent.
  • Necromancer
    • Type: Summoning undead wings.
    • Description: The Necromancer... Hades in the animated Herculez. Full of evil and mysterious demonic powers. As the opposite to the Guardian, my best suggestion for the Necromancer would be demonic/undead wings.
  • Ranger
    • Type: Summoning birds.
    • Description: The Ranger to me is a friend of nature. Robin Hood. Take from the rich and give to the poor. Boog and Elliot. Ducks. I don't know how the crabstake I came up with this s***. However. I believe summoning birds would look really good as a guardian of nature.
  • Warrior
    • Type: Stomp.
    • Description: No matter how high on some unhealthy smoking you are, you should be able to resist gravity. (Phil to Hercules: "Use your head!") Ok, that was random. I'd say: "Use your feet!".
  • Elementalist
    • Type: Manipulating nature.
    • Description: Do I need to describe this one to you? I don't think so.
  • ???
    • Type: ???
    • Description: ???

Icon[edit]

I prefer the icon for this feature to be clean and simple. This is a preview of how simple.

Other Suggestions[edit]

- Just want a hotkey for hang-gliders... Kormon Balser
- Engineer: Jumpshot upwards just before he hits the gound. Scourge 213
- Necromancer: Corrupt the gound underneath himself making it soft to land on (sink and go back up). Scourge 213

I hope you like the edits and take this under consideration. I personally will play this game with or without this feature.
