This suggestion is based on the format of the Dervish overhaul update, and will include changes to Paragons and other support abilities.
Goals[edit]
- Make primary Paragons more versatile (especially in PvE).
- Emphasize the Paragon's unique niche as a hybrid ranged pressure/support.
- Overhaul the Paragon's profession mechanics (Chants, Echoes) to make them feel more unique and interesting.
Overview[edit]
- This section is under construction.
The Role of the Paragon[edit]
Paragons never really found their niche in Guild Wars. In PvE, they were primarily used as so-called "Imbagons", who could utilize a combination of two skills to reduce incoming damage by over 80% with permanent uptime. In PvP, they were able to fulfill something closer to their role as midline support/pressure hybrids.
This suggestion takes Paragons in the direction of a support with single-target pressure. They won't have the raw damage of other martials like Assassins and Rangers, the area of effect pressure of Dervishes, or the on-demand healing and protection of Monks and Ritualists, but they will possess a wide variety of support and pressure abilities, making them a valuable addition to any midline.
Leadership[edit]
- Leadership: changed functionality to "You gain 1 Energy for each ally affected by your Chants or Shouts (maximum 1 Energy per rank)."
Most of the "recent" overhauls have included buffs (including PvE-only buffs) to the primary attribute of the profession in order to make them a more appealing choice when compared to profession with already strong primary attributes like Necromancer and Assassin. This change may seem odd; it reduces the energy per ally (from 2 to 1), but increases the cap on energy gain (from 1 per 2 ranks to 1 per rank). Like other Energy management primary attributes, this change is intended to reward Paragons who use their profession's abilities (or their profession's synergy with various secondary professions) to the fullest, and also works incredibly well with some of the other changes, especially to Chants.
Chants[edit]
This suggestion overhauls Chants to be passive, reapplying buffs. Chants are maintained (using the same interface as maintained enchantments) but do not cause energy degeneration. A Paragon can only maintain a single Chant at a time, and activating a Chant disables other Chants for 5 seconds.
While maintained, a Chant provides a (non-stacking) boon to all party members within earshot every 5 seconds. Some of these boons require no additional effort to activate, while others only take effect when a specific criteria is fulfilled.
15 25 Elite Chant. Every 5 seconds, party members in earshot block the next successful attack.
