Enhanced Trial Experience[edit]

This suggestion only applies to new players using a trial key.

During the first half of the trial period (i.e. the first 5 hours), the player can create and play fresh characters, as per usual. Afterwards, the player can also create and try high-level characters, much like in the gamescom demo.

The high-level character will have access to all weapons for its profession in its inventory.

These high-level characters can either be:

  • carefully placed in the existing servers, sharing the experience with current players; or
  • placed in a controlled environment in a separate server specifically for these trial characters.

Any high-level characters will be locked after the trial key ends. If the player decides to purchase the game, he can use a locked character as a template (profession, appearance, name, etc.) for a new one or simply delete it.

Reasoning[edit]

This allows players to experience the game when a lot of skills and mechanics are unlocked. Players will also be able to develop a sense of what professions and weapons they like the most.

Players will realize that the game will be fun all the way through. Or, if they don't enjoy the beginning of the game, they'll have something to look forward to.

Advantages/Disadvantages[edit]

  • Added experience for trial users
  • ANet already has an idea of the public's response from the demos at gamescom, PAX, etc.
  • It's difficult to decide where to place these new high-level characters and how to ensure a good environment for the new players and the current players.
  • This might spoil the players' experience.
  • If these characters are placed in their own server, what would happen if there are very few trial users?
