I have played Guild Wars with my wife for 5 years. We don't often play with other players, but have encountered a surprising number of other couples, even spouses who were playing together. The "back story" element of GW2 provides a chance to give us couples a greater connection to our characters. It would also create an opportunity to incorporate features that I know we wish we could have used a lot, such as easy trade functions, or even common storage, and perhaps special relationship skills or boons.
I don't get to play too many other games, besides guild wars, but I recently "married" my wife in Fable III. Aside from the common resources, nothing about that game marriage really made me feel like the characters were really "married." Having an actual written back story, like GW2 could offer about the relationship, would really create an interested connection between married players and their characters.
Just a thought. Relationship skills. Think about it.
