Let me start by saying GW was amazing. The only point it really fell down on was a good, inter-city, inter-district trade system and mailbox.

Of course with a free to play MMO its understandable that you don't have an infinate amount of memory to store billions of items per character, and that limiting it to the current storage and adding an Auction House would cause people to abuse the extra "temporary" space (ie put things for auction for a ridiculous price so they are returned when you have more space). And likewise with storing items in the mailbox.

Auctionhouse[edit]

By adding limitations these problems can be avoided. For example, only allowing a certain number of active auctions per account, stopping people from buying or selling when this number is at its max. These auctions could be accessible to all players on that account to alter (who have met the requirements to use the accountwide storage system).

This also helps as it means people will not sell individual items by splitting a stack, as they can only sell a limited number at a time.

The auctions could charge a flat deposite depending on the rarity of the item and type, which is returned should the auction be successful. The auctionhouse can take a % of the successful sale money, as a way of maintaining a gold sink, and making players decide whether it is worth flooding the auctionhouse with cheap goods.

Mail[edit]

By adding a mailbox which allows people to send mail to other people for a small fee, raising with extra items added, players can send gifts etc to their friends even if they are offline.

Again limitations would need to be in place. An example of this is to only store the mail for, for example, 28 days; and is deleted (or returned) after this time.

Also, a certain number of mail could be stored before no more auctions can be started or bid on without clearing the mail, and any attempt to send mail to a player with a full inbox could be given a message telling them that it cannot be sent as they have a full inbox.

Expanding Oportunities[edit]

By allowing players to buy more slots to the mailbox or auctionhouse (as with storage slots like in GW) would technically give people an unfair advantage over other merchanting players, and would be comparable to saying that Gameshark is ok because you spent money on it, so would not be advised.

However allowing players to earn extra slots by competing in events, or simply doing quests or leveling would allow all players to have equal opportunities.
