Forms of Currency Among the Races[edit]

Ah yes, currency: the essential epitome of marketing and making trades. However, as we have witnessed throughout history, currency is rarely a constant among independent nations. This is CERTAINLY no different in these circumstances, considering that many of the various races have been isolated for periods of time, which would result in forms of currency that would appeal to them alone, rather than to the world as a whole. I shall be tossing out ideas for forms of currency that would logically appeal to a particular race. As we have seen, however, whether by inflation or by simple economic circumstance, currency is rarely "even". For instance, Sylvari may have to pay 50 of their currency for something that would cost only 24 of a Charr's currency.

On this note, it should first be taken into account of the ratio one currency is worth to another. This will be done based on the abundance of the monetary object, as well as its value whether it be its usage (such as bronze or copper) or its aesthetic appeal (for instance; Pearls).

1 Telesphere > 1 Lunite Coin > 1 Silverspire Shard > 1 gold coin > 1 1-inch Boreal Gem.

This does not mean that the Asura are naturally more wealthy than the Norn. This simply indicates that the Norn's form of currency is more abundant and easier to collect than an Asura's currency, and so forth.

Because of the 5 different kinds of currency, those who wish to travel around the world would need to be sure to carry the various kinds of currency. This would make the game more realistic, as well as add a sense of global economy. Here are some random suggestions for various forms of currency:

Charr: Lunite Ore-- smelted into finely-shaped coins for easy-carrying, this ore is useful for enhancing armor and weaponry. Because of its value, the Charr have begun using these Lunite coins as currency. Each coin is roughly 2 inches in diameter.

Humans: Gold-- Humans have valued gold for many purposes, and each coin is delicately crafted with the seal of the queen upon it. Each coin is roughly 1 1/2 inches in diameter.

Norn: Boreal 'gems'-- carved from the razor-sharp teeth of hunted animals, these trinkets have intricately chiseled patterns showing the sign of the hunter. These teeth vary in size; 1 inch being worth half as much as 2 inches, 2 inches being worth half as much as 4 inches, etc.

Sylvari: Silverspire Shards-- Chiseled from the hardened sap of the rare Silverspire Tree, these shards are a light blue in sunlight, and turn purple in moonlight. The shards glow gently, and can be a method of lighting without the use of fire. Each shard is chiseled into a perfect crystal roughly 1 inch long.

Asura: Telespheres-- small crystal spheres, these act as containers for energy. This energy causes levitation and synergetics, allowing the existence of golems and enabling the Asura city to levitate. These small spheres are about 1 inch in diameter, but weigh virtually nothing due to the anti-gravity field they generate around themselves.
