Feedback:User/Guild Wars 3 perhaps/Adaptive Graphics Quality Scaling

I've watched a lot of WvWvW GW2 videos and a common issue among them has been a decreased frame rate as more and more combatants enter a battle. My suggestion is to add a checkbox which will permit players to toggle scaling of their graphics quality as frame rates drop. In addition to the toggle checkbox, there may even be a numerical data entry field in which a player can type the frame rate at which they want the graphics quality to change.

For example:

  • Let's assume a player on first entering the game has manually set their graphics to "Best Quality".
  • This player also checkmarks the "Graphics Scaling" box and types 45 into the frame rate field.
  • The player begins to play and maintains 60 FPS.
  • They enter a large battle in WvWvW and their frame rate drops to 45.
  • Their graphics setting will then automatically downscale to the next notch below "Best Quality".
  • The player's FPS increases to 55.
  • Even more combatants join the zergfest and the player's FPS drops yet again to 45.
  • Their graphics setting again automatically downscales to the next lower notch and their FPS increases above 45.
  • The battle concludes, groups splinter off and go their separate ways, and the player's FPS rises again to 60+.
  • Now, their graphics setting automatically upscales back to "Best Quality" (or whatever the best quality can be achieved while still maintaining 45 or better FPS).

This saves players from having to manually open the graphics settings dialog box in the middle of a battle to adjust their quality when the FPS drops too low or having to put up with the game becoming a slide show if they don't make a manual adjustment (because they're too busy fighting). Just one small suggestion to keep the game running smoothly, regardless of the number of elements on the screen at any one time (but remaining 100% optional).

I realize with game launch pending, this is about as low on the priority list as it can get. However, after launch maybe it would be something to revisit as the game is refined over time.
