In The Hobbit, when Bilbo Baggins found himself relying on his wits and his short sword, he showed his appreciation for his Elven blade by naming it "Sting".
Having a named weapon is a convention of fantasy literature (and now gaming). In worlds and times of peril, sometimes you really can't trust anything more than the weapon in your hands.
I'd like to suggest a feature or mechanic that allows us to name our weapons. As far as GW2 is meant to be more intimate and immersive with the Personal Storyline, letting you name your favorite weapons will be a nice, extra touch. Even if it's not the epic sword or warhorn of some long-forgotten soldier of legend but simply a reliable, sturdy weapon you yourself forged, naming your favorite piece of gear is a very personal experience.
If there's anything like customization in the game, you could include this option with that process. So as to not burden the servers or create confusion when showing your weapon to others for stat comparison purposes, the name need only appear to the weapon's owner.
