Feedback:User/Shawn at GWW/New Opportunity: 4th Anniversary Storage

Hi there folks!

This is my first suggestion to Guild Wars/ArenaNet, so I'd like to take this opportunity to thank ArenaNet for some great innovation and software development.  I've been playing GW since 2009, and it has been a very pleasant experience.  The GW Wiki is also a wonderful community.

Let's Celebrate Forever[edit]

My humble suggestion is that, perhaps GW/ArenaNet can make the 4th Annivesary Xunlai storage pane a celebration of the GW 4th Anniversary in a new way:  instead of the celebration being limited to just those who were playing at the time, broaden the celebration by expanding the anniversary giveaway to all of the GW community.  This would say that GW/ArenaNet is so happy with the game's success that, instead of just one free Xunlai storage pane for every account, now there is two.

The wonderful thing about this change is that the mechanics of enabling the 4th Anniversary storage pane already exists—seems like not much investment for a whole lot of gratitude.  : )

For added incentive, perhaps if GW/ArenaNet is concerned with profits related to Xunlai storage pane and GW chapter sales, the 4th Anniversary storage pane could be offered to accounts only after they've already reached the maximum possible number of Xunlai panes (this can only be achieved by purchasing all of the GW chapters and the maximum number of storage panes).  Additionally, GW/ArenaNet can further impose that these qualified accounts must be 4+ years old before the offer can be claimed (suggested by Chieftain Alex [20:26, 19 November 2011 (UTC)] on the talk page of this feedback).  This way, the free anniversary storage pane can be a celebration for the 4th Anniversary and a reward for those who have purchased all the game chapters and Xunlai panes available.

Effect on Gaming Experience[edit]

The main reason why I'm suggesting this adjustment is because we are constantly reminded that we can't get the free anniversary storage pane by the fact that there is a greyed out anniversary storage tab in the Xunlai chest window.  I can understand that the regular Xunlai storage tabs II–VIII (when greyed out) are there to possibly encourage people to financially contribute to GW by buying more Xunlai panes, but what can anyone do to financially support GW or 'buy' the 4th Anniversary storage pane?  To be clear, this is not a request based on hording (because for horders, one could give them 20 panes and it still wouldn't be enough).

Giving everyone an opportunity to have the 4th Anniversary storage pane would not significantly/adversely affect game experience for other players: players wouldn't see that others have the extra pane (as is the case with costumes), and it's not tradable (so it wouldn't affect game economy).  I would use the extra pane to store miniatures, extra sets of armor for fashion, and such personally relevant items.

Background for Suggestion[edit]

After having seen a friend playing GW in 2007/2008, I went out and bought two copies of GW GotY for myself and another friend in mid-2009.  Unfortunately, being busy with college, neither of us installed the game until a break in November 2009.  Unfortunately, that meant we just missed the 4th Anniversary free Xunlai storage pane giveaway.  As neither of us knew of the special game/community setup in GW, we didn't realise that the game had a time-critical nature (GW is the first game of this time-critical nature that we've ever played).  It has been the saddest point in an otherwise happy experience with GW.

We love GW so much that I bought two more copies of the game (Christmas 2009) for two other friends as well as all of the chapters/expansions for each account.  Although I'm not wealthy in any way, I have been both spiritually and financially dedicated to GW.  All four accounts each have maximum Xunlai panes and all the game chapters.  In addition, so far we've also purchased all the costume packs collectively between the four accounts.  I'm waiting to buy the bonus mission pack and mercenary heroes pack (maybe even more character slots) for all of us at some point as well as any new/future costumes that we like.  In September 2010, I also bought an account with all the chapters except EotN for a fifth person.

In the spirit of giving the gift of GW, let's celebrate by sharing such a simple change.  Thanks!
