Feedback:User/Skekzyz/Inter-game trading (scam killer)

A friend and I were discussing what will become of Guild Wars Gold values when GW2 is released and we came to the conclusion that it will be virtually worthless especially since the Hall of Monuments nor any link that goes along with a GW/GW2 account allow a player to transfer their Gold from GW to GW2, which is a perfectly fine idea except in one respect...

If left to our own devices trading between GW and GW2 will be ripe for scammers.

I'm not talking about trading an item from a GW account to a GW2 account this will be impossible and rightly so. What I am talking about is the value of items that remain on a GW account that can be used for titles ect. that will impact GW2 through the Hall of Monuments. Those items will be of tremendous value but mostly in terms of GW2 gold value. For example you could trade alcohol for say sweets inside GW but wouldn't you rather be able to SECURELY trade it for GW2 gold or items? Without a way to do this securely you are setting yourself up for being scammed.

The way I see it there will be a huge market for this type of trade and if Arenanet does not implement a secure interface in which to do this they will probably see alot of support tickets on this issue and be able to do nothing about it until they do decide to implement a secure interface for this type of trade. So why not make it a reality from the get go...?

Here is what I propose:

Since GW and GW2 accounts will have to be linked for the HoM these are the only type of accounts that would be able to participate in this type of trade, obviously.

Create a trade window that can connect a GW character with a GW2 character and visa versa, let's call this "intertrade." The intertrade window would be very similiar in each game and would be able to display items (GW2 items displayed in GW would probally not look as good as they do in GW2 but the "tooltip" of the stats would be enough to discern what you are getting) and gold much like the current GW trade window, it would also include a drop down box of each accounts characters on the other game to be the recipient of the trade, since all character info is stored on Anet servers this should not be much of a problem to implement and determine if the trade is possible with space requirements to hold the gold and or items, having a red/green indicator for this fact would be very nice but not necessary. Intertrade could be initiated by either a GW or GW2 character simply by entering the name of the character in the other game to be traded with whom must be online at the time of initiation. An intertrade Friends/Ignore list should also be included to keep the less mature members of the GWs community from spamming initiation when it is unwanted by the recipient and to keep track of people who you have had good dealings with in the past.

Here's an example: I've linked my accounts and have played GW2 for about 100 hours and see someone selling a sword that I want but can't yet buy it with GW2 gold 'cause I have a job and haven't had time to farm up the gold they want for it, but with intertrade, if they are also asking for GW alcohol in trade, (which I have enough to supply my own max title and still have alot left over to get rid of but it's worth nothing to me in GW gold now that GW2 is out) I can jump on my old GW character and request an intertrade with the GW2 character that was selling the sword I want in GW2, put my alcohol in the intertrade window and select my GW2 character that I want to recieve the GW2 sword, the GW2 character with the sword sees that I have the alcohol that he/she wants in GW, puts the sword into intertrade and selects his/her GW character to recieve the GW alcohol that I'm trading for the GW2 sword, which may only be a simple GW icon to me but when I mouse over it I see that the stats are what was offered and once we both hit the accept button the trade is done and he/she can log onto GW knowing the alcohol will be on the character that was selected in GW2 and commence getting blurry eyed, while I can log onto GW2 knowing that the sword will be on the character that I selected and can go hack away with my new GW2 sword that I bought with GW alcohol.

Without "intertrade" I have a few options, go farm and hope I can find that sword for sale again, take a chance on getting scammed, or get really pissed off at Arenanet because of how rich I used to be in Guild Wars but now it's damn near worthless to me and everyone else, and then go play WoW.

Cons:

  • if implemented properly I can think of very few, the graphical differences would be the biggest one I think
  • depending on how Anet has set up GW2 servers direct links between the two games may be a little laggy but I don't think anyone would mind that much to be able to do this.
  • if this is not implemented I really do think alot of players will 1. end up getting scammed and report/send support tickets 2. bug the hell outta Anet until they do this.

Pros:

  • happy players who have invested in most if not all of Anets games
  • the possibility that this one feature could keep GW alive and well and even still selling after the release of GW2
