Choose your weapon and then how you want to carry it[edit]

MMOs are all about customization and the feeling of your character being unique in the universe which the story takes place. An option that I've really missed is to choose how I carry my weapons. I don't like when games force me to have a sword hanging from my belt when I'm an assassin, or when my warrior carries his weapon on his back, regardless of size. It should all be about the player's choice. Here are some suggestions for positioning of the respective weapons:

Left- or right-handed?

Finally! In Guild Wars 2 you can choose if you want your hero to be left- or right-handed. Should you regret your choice, don't despair. Just enter the character panel and select "Right-handed" in the menu "Handedness". It's easy and accessible. Why make it difficult? When you have chosen your handedness, you will have a two hour cooldown before you can change it back. This is because you should try to play some with the chosen handedness before you make up your mind.

Weapon positions - One-handed weapons

  • Cross on your back
  • Reverse Cross on your back
  • Left Cross near your hip
  • Right Cross near your hip
  • Cross near your hip
  • Reverse Cross near your hip
  • Left Horizontal near your hip
  • Right Horizontal near your hip
  • Vertical(x2) on your back
  • Reverse Vertical(x2) on your back
  • Hidden in sleeves(daggers and small weapons only)
  • Hidden on your back inside your armour(daggers and small weapons only)

Players who only wield one one-handed weapon can choose either of the positions in each category. Players who also wield a shield in addition to an one-handed weapon can only choose a position which will leave the hilt facing upwards.

Weapon positions - Two-handed weapons

  • Crossing your back from left to right
  • Crossing your back from left to right(reverse)
  • Crossing your back from right to left
  • Crossing your back from right to left(reverse)
  • Vertical on your back
  • Reverse Vertical on your back
  • Left Horizontal on your back
  • Right Horizontal on your back

Weapon positions - Focuses and horns

  • Focuses and horns can be carried in any position on your belt or be hidden in your armour.
  • Some focus- and horn types can be summoned and/or hidden because of their magical abilities. They often have an animated summoning phase.

Weapon positions - Torches

  • Torches can in general only be carried on the back, facing upwards and away from your flammable armour.
  • Some torch types can be summoned and/or hidden because of their magical abilities. Summoned torches have a nice animation as they light up.

Weapon positions - Shields

Even though shields are regarded as armour, I mention them here because they also have this kind of customization.

They can be carried in these ways:

  • Vertical(default)
  • Crossing your back from left to right
  • Crossing your back from right to left
  • Left Horizontal on your back
  • Right Horizontal on your back
