Proposal: add truly automatic looting to the game[edit]
I propose that ANet expand the looting options to three choices:
- Manual looting: same as current default — player must find corpse, press the action key, and decide which items to keep.
(I predict players will use this only after they become very, very rich.) - Automatic distribution: same as current auto-looting — player must find the corpse and press the action key, but all items are moved into inventory.
- Automatic looting: whenever the character is near a lootable corpse, all items are automatically distributed into inventory.
(I predict nearly everyone uses this for the first few months.)
Background: Auto looting vs automatic distribution[edit]
Currently, the game option called Auto looting is limited: it doesn't loot automatically, it merely automatically distributes loot into inventory. It has three issues:
- You must seek out the vaguely-sparkly corpses.
- You must be careful to avoid being close to other interactive objects (NPCs, environmental weapons, downed players, ...).
- You must be quick or risk losing the loot (the timing is much better now than after BWE/1).
