UI Improvements From Reddit[edit]

Background[edit]

This post from proteininja on the GW2 sub-Reddit offers several suggestions for improving the UI. Since I am stealing someone else's ideas, I am bundling them all into one suggestion. They mostly fall under the category of "great feature — now make it fantastic".

  • If you have a Reddit account, I recommend commenting directly to the original thread.
  • Regardless, as always, I welcome any thoughts or suggestions on this article's talk page (please either quote the idea or mention the number, to make it easy for others to follow the context).
  • I've had some of these ideas myself, but credit should really go to proteininja, whose post catalyzed my decision to create the Feedback page here.

Original Suggestions[edit]

(I have paraphrased and reformatted the ideas.)

Question-Logo.png Problem statement: (1) The [F] key is over-used; it creates a lot of frustration to have it work on so many different functions in the same space.

Info-Logo.png Recommendation: Split up the actions into several keybindings and allow users to assign the same key to all actions or different keys to each. (TEF adds: in particular, separate Loot, Revive, Talk, and Harvest (i.e. Gather, Cut, Mine).

Question-Logo.png Problem statement: (2) It's tedious to withdraw items from the bank to craft.

Info-Logo.png Recommendation: (2) Two possibilities: (a) add a bank option to withdraw all items for a specific discipline or (b) allow crafting items to be used directly from the collection and bank.

Question-Logo.png Problem statement: (3) Items in the collections area cannot directly be added to mail, adding an unnecessary step.

Info-Logo.png Recommendation: (3) Add "Send mail to..." to the context menu of items in the collection. Enable drag and drop functionality from the collection to the email pane.

Question-Logo.png Problem statement: (4) When attempting to send mail to a contact, the player must type that persons full name unless using the related "Send mail" function in the party UI.

Info-Logo.png Recommendation: (4) Enable auto-completion to the "To:" field that includes contacts, recent whisper recipients, and recent mail recipients.

Question-Logo.png Problem statement: (5) When a party member is logged out, right-clicking their portrait no longer gives the option to send them mail.

Info-Logo.png Recommendation: (5) Enable the "Send mail to..." option regardless of party members' online status.

Question-Logo.png Problem statement: (6) Quest-related items that cannot be sold or salvaged appear very similar to some junk trophies.

Info-Logo.png Recommendation: (6) Label these items as quest items, so I can easily identify them and destroy them after the related heart quest or dynamic event is over.

Question-Logo.png Problem statement: (7) Some pet abilities feel unresponsive and do not activate on the first attempt.

Info-Logo.png Recommendation: (7) Provide feedback when activating a pet ability that will never be executed. (For example, "pet too far away from target.")

Question-Logo.png Problem statement: (8) Players are not aware they are missing underwater skills until they are in combat, which is dangerously late.

Info-Logo.png Recommendation: (8) (a) Ensure that each underwater slot is matched by the corresponding ambphibious skills. For non-ambphibious skills, warn the player.
