Feedback talk:User/Agentwaffle/3rd Person Reticule Targeting Option *With Video Demonstration*
Well thought out and good job on putting together a demo video. With your own caveat that this would be an optional feature rather than the only targeting option, I am in support of it.
Personally, I probably wouldn't rely on it as my default targeting and aiming method, but I can envision situations where it would have utility. One big advantage is it avoids having to make multiple key presses (TAB key by default) just to find the enemy you want to target. Instead, you simply place your reticle on your desired target and - voila - it's targeted. Any mechanic that can reduce the number of key presses and make the gaming experience more fluid, integrated, and intuitive is a good thing in my opinion.
That said, I do see one disadvantage to it (at least as it currently stands using GW1 as the example; might not be as much of an issue in GW2). When fighting large mobs, you might want to target an enemy in the backline. Using the current method you can rapidly TAB to find that target. When relying on reticle targeting, though, it will be more difficult to acquire that target because of all the enemies standing on the frontline between you and the enemy you really want to attack. Those enemies will block your reticle from being able to focus on the enemy in the backline. This could be overcome by automatically turning the reticle targeting off if you press the TAB key to target. Guild Wars 3 perhaps 23:43, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- I like having options. If possible, I'd also like to be able to toggle between targeting options (e.g. press F7 to cycle from GW-tab-targeting to FPS-targeting to option-C). I might never use this (as I'm hopeless at FPS), but I think the more options we have to control our UI the better. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:03, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
