Given that heroes and henchmen will not be used in GW2, I think we can assume that there will not be any form of AI taking a character slot in the party. (Companions will be used, but they don't take up a character slot.) That means that there is no AI for the human player to replace. Instead, I think this suggestion should focus on adding a human player to a non-full party. I can only guess that in GW2, some parties will choose not to be full because of certain benefits, such as lower level monsters, less monsters, and/or greater experience/gold/drops. (GW2 will scale the difficulty and rewards based on the number of players in a party.) --Arngrim 20:48, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

An alternative suggestion to your "15 minute" rule could be the following. Party members do not get credit for completed mission objectives unless they have been present in the instance for at least X minutes. Define "X" as whatever number you feel is fair. It could be a direct proportion of the time taken to complete the mission from start to finish (example 1), or a set number of minutes based on the "assumed" mission duration (example 2).

Example 1: Let's say a particular mission's "completion" requirement is 50% of the total mission time. A party of 3 begins a mission. They play for 10 minutes before inviting a fourth player into their party. Player 4 joins the instance at the 10-minute mark. If the party completes the mission in only 15 minutes total, the fourth player gets no benefit, and does not count as having completed the mission (because he only played for 5 out of the total 15 minutes). On the other hand, if the mission takes the group a total of 25 minutes to complete, all four players would get credit for completion, because they all participated in at least 12.5 minutes (half) of the total mission time.

Example 2: Take the same mission and 3-person party as the previous example, only this time, the game designers have "assumed" an average completion time of 20 minutes for the mission, and programmed things accordingly. The mission completion requirement is still 50%. So the fourth player who joins later would have to play at least 10 minutes in order to receive credit for completing the mission. This may or may not happen, depending on how quickly the group actually completes the mission.

I hope this is adequately explained....as always, just my two cents' worth. :) --216.176.94.186 21:57, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
