Feedback talk:User/Benanaz/Unique Weapon Abilities

That sound good in theory, I really like the idea on paper, but when I think about what they would have to do to actually apply that it seems problematic. Seems like it lead to people all having the same skills from the same ultra-rare weapons. It would require a lot of well-balanced high end weapons in order for it to keep for locking people into a very limited number of skill sets per class. Plus this would make things tough for classes like the thief who has different skills depending on what hand the weapon is in and what hand is in their other hand. Would a high end thief weapon have two unique, one for main and one for offhand? I'm not saying it doesn't sound cool but I think it would be a nightmare to make it all work.

I think it might be easier to just have any flaming weapons or something similar be able to swap out the normal skill sets for an all fire based one temporarily like an environmental weapon. I know that isn't really what you were saying but I think it would be more practical if you wanted to have a skills limited to a smallish number of high end weapons. When I first read this, is was like. Yeah sure! This should be in! However, you should bear in mind that we are able to change the looks of ours weapons and armors in game. Please take in mind that if you have like a Fiery Dragon Sword, which causes periodically explosions, but you'd be like.. oh hell no, I'm done with that skin. You find a good looking sword, whom has nothing to do with flames and explosions. Hell lets say, it's even an Icy skin sword. What now? Should Guild Wars change the Weapon Specific Skill (Let's call it WSS) change, for instance, temporary freezes/slows speed? Or just completely remove the WSS, on the weapon. It's extremely cool, and defines under MMORPG's in my opinion. But does it fit in the Guild Wars style and isn't it complicated? If not, I'd like to see it happening, feedback on my opinion please! For starters, these weapons abilities would play havoc with the skill balance Arenanet has laid out. Secondly, the concept of unique abilities to weapons doesn't fit into GW2's paradigm of how weapons ( and armor) are supposed to work. GW1 and GW2 aren't about having the best "uber leet gear". Both games have a plateau of power for these items, and the rarity and desirability is mostly based on cosmetics, which don't effect game play. Finally, as the post above seemed to mention, GW2 will have "transmutation stones" (or whatever they're called). These allow you to take any skin, and combine it with a lesser skin but with better stats weapon, to form a weapon with the cooler skin and the better stats. Your suggestion doesn't seem to take that into consideration.--Will Greyhawk 18:04, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
