Feedback talk:User/Combatter/Language tagging and filtering for chat

So to clarify, the filtering you suggest are done from the client side (ie. he specifies which [default] language and [other] languages he types in.) Everyone else that has these languages set as their chosen languages can see it, and for everyone else the chat is filtered? Was reading it a few times, at first thought it meant for the system to have different dictionaries for each major language, and then automatically {attempt} to filter it being chosen. So just wanted some clarification, if its as I think you meant, its awesome... because some of my friends also complained about a major language overruling all chat, and it becomes a bit unpleasant. --ChameleonDevil 12:22, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

At first I thought the tagging would just be manual (due to problems with acronyms, mispelling, slang, etc) but tbh I don't see any reason why there shouldn't be an option (set by the player in their settings and in addition to the manual tagging I mentionned) that, if enabled, would mean that any outgoing messages would be scanned (by their computer, not the server) for words and the appropriate language tagged automatically --Combatter 12:36, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

To add, it will be better than our current solution (all my friends), to find a primary English speaking server, because it will actually cost money if your 'chosen' server has a majority of other languages, and you need to move. It makes it difficult where everyone joined a server (as happened with my friends) and dont understand 95% of what is said. --ChameleonDevil 12:28, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

I agree. It will be particularly unfair on the newbies (who would not know that 'Jade Sea is a "French server"') who choose a server and then find that the chat is predominantly in a language they don't understand and so they are then effectively forced to move server. Without some kind of language tagging/filtering system, I predict that the player base in the European worlds will become unnecessarily split. --Combatter 12:36, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
