I wish they'd leave the cap at 20. It's reasonable enough, really. It was one thing out of many that turned me off to WoW (world of warcraft). I think that with much else they could do, have, etc. to keep it similar to this one... There's no need for higher levels. I can see complications. Ariyen 09:09, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

It's been confirmed here by Eric Flannum that the cap will indeed be raised. A level cap raise is necessary to allow the creation of expansions later easier without making overpowered skills that ruin the game. Capping at a range of 30-50 now allows for expansions to add 10 or so levels so overpowered skills don't need to be made for Lv 20s to beat Lv 30+ enemies.--Malchior Devenholm 16:38, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
They might only raise it 10 levels, who knows. It will be interesting 'How' they do that and maintain it. Hence, I'm not jumping to the conclusions of 'sidekick', etc. so quickly or soon. I'm interested to see how things will or would be for Gw2, as I think it's too soon to judge now with what so little information we have, but suggestions would be good. Also, I don't think it'd be good to really obsolete old areas or limit areas so players can't get to them as if you have someone similar to the traveler... That'd make it harder on players to try to get things, etc. you'd have to create another character to be at a certain level or work to level a character up. ♥ Ariyen ♀ 18:37, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Just to be clear, this is a problem in any RPG, getting run through areas, missions, quests, etc. Still, the idea is intriguing, and I wouldn't be opposed to, say, limiting attribute levels (but not health, energy, armor, etc.) to make a character equal in power to the lower level sidekick for such reverse situations. I might add that it should only be done in cases of extreme level differences (15 or more). I'm curious to know how other people feel about a global equalizer such as this. Game Balance Issues[edit]

This would introduce balance issues. High level characters would be selling their services to lower level character to powerlevel them whilst (due to a small level gap) they still get reasonable xp. This is becuase you would not only have to scale the level, but attributes, skills and items. In games like City of Heroes, where a sidekick system is implemented, the level increase really only affects your health and the power of your skills, which is why it is so effective. In a game with more depth, it is unlikely to be as easy to introduce. MattieTK 10:03, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
