Why? — Raine Valen 2:50, 9 Feb 2011 (UTC)
- Well he's not the first one trying to make this suggestion and to a point i can see why. In real life a mantra is something that resembles a prayer or at least something motivating, still i don't see why Mesmers should become better Paragons all of the sudden. - It's not just that the Mesmer is becoming a better Paragon with this suggestion, it's completly overpowerd because you can just use a mesmer with seven Mantras and he can buff his party into oblivion, i mean, the energycost is way too low for effects like this not to speak of the activationtime probably being 27-30% with moderate fastcast making interrupts near impossible. Mantra of Persistence wins fights on its own :P Koda 11:49, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
- I could fill a page-worth of reasons, but my concised-primary reasoning is threefold: more support options for Ritualists (Vocal Was Sogolon), more support options for Mesmers, and more support options for Paragons. Mantras were changed into stances; since then the mesmer has about 15 skills, each with niche uses in direct competition for the same skillslot real-estate, in an attribute titled Inspiration Magic that stands to benefit from more Stolen Speed-like functionality; and I know plenty of players who'd love to use these outside of farming builds. --Falconeye 06:42, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
- Well changing their skill types might not be a bad idea but i would go for enchantments instead of chants actually. The reason is that mantras are designed to protect the user. The role of the mesmer and how it's played in adition with the skills it has doesn't really make it a viable party support class. Second reason is that chants still have balancing issues. Altough yours have a long recharge, their long durations combined with that there is no skill to remove chants makes them too strong, or in case when their drawbacks or effects backfire on them they also cannot be cancelled out. If you want them as chants they should have functions as chants have, being activated on a certain condition. You also might want to define their function as chant of the name mantra, my advice: a passive effect combined with an active effect that triggers on use of a skill. I will leave the first ideas to you unless you would like otherwise. Damysticreaper 18:25, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

- Why make them affect allies? Why not just let them continue to only affect the player who casts it and turn it into a chant? As a realism perspective, it makes sense for it to be a chant instead of a stance (hell, even a shout would be better) but you run into problems from a game mechanics perspective. The first is that the mantras suddenly become un-removable, whereas before skills like Wild Blow would remove them. However, due to their now-existing casting time, they can be interrupted and suffer the same problems (ie: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Chant#Skills_that_counter_chants) that all chants run into.
- And then on top of that you have their added functionality in combination with certain paragon, warrior, and ritualist skills that benefit from chants. This makes mesmers incredibly more viable as both a secondary and primary profession, especially in combination with the paragon (and not to mention the fact that all mantras are Inspiration-based, a non-primary attribute).
- I guess what I'm saying is that it's quite overpowered as-is just changing it to a chant. To then make it affect allies and change some of the functionality as you suggest might be a bit of overkill. I would still like to see them as chants and maybe debuffed a bit to compensate. --Tloch14 16:38, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
