Feedback talk:User/Sesuko/Character Creation Offline Access

I agree with your suggestion to permit players to access the Character Creator off-line. This benefits both the players and ArenaNet. If players can create their characters off-line, then that's more time they spend playing the beta weekend events. This, in turn, improves the odds of receiving useful feedback from the players.

However - with regards to your comments regarding pre-purchase - what many people seem to forget is in making a pre-purchase all you've done is exactly that...pre-purchased the finished game. That pre-purchase is not an entitlement or a right to anything outside of that. The beta weekend events are a privilege extended to you by ArenaNet; the pre-purchase of the game has absolutely nothing to do with the BWEs.

Granted, it benefits ArenaNet to give the fans a chance to beta test the game so that ArenaNet can collect valuable feedback, metrics, and bug reporting to aid in improving the game. Even so, you still did not purchase a right to the BWEs; only to the finished game. ArenaNet could open the BWEs up to everyone if they wanted to; pre-purchase or no. No where is there a contract or licensing agreement - expressed or implied - which grants a pre-purchaser an exclusive right to participate in the BWEs. It was a marketing ploy; nothing more. Welcome to the business side of games development.

I, for one, am quite happy to see them taking their time with this. I'm an ancient gamer; I even owned the very first home video game, Pong. I came of age when games were released to market in a completely finished state with no bugs. Over the decades it's been disappointing to watch the games development community cave in to greed by rushing half-finished, buggy games to market. It's refreshing and encouraging to finally hear (again) a games developer like ArenaNet state, "When it's finished." and place greater emphasis on taking the time to release a quality product. The wait will be worth it. Guild Wars 3 perhaps 19:47, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

My topic wasn't about earning a right to play on the server at all. I'm concerned that you may have missed my point. I'm merely after offline access to the Character Creator so we can do something while they develop this amazing game. Nothing more, nothing less.
However, while on that note, the very foundation of pre-ordering is to raise the funds necessary to support the development process and perfect the game as best as possible. Game Developers came up with that idea themselves because they needed support from the public. In other words, Arena Net is no different in that they needed our support to get this game ready for launch; especially after working on it for half a decade. Kindly, we support them by pre-purchasing the game, yet we are forced to sit and wait to play one weekend out of the month -if that. Well that's fine for some of us, but not everyone can wait. Not everyone feels that spending $60, in this Internet Era (where as opposed to 1 decade ago where a pre-order would only serve as a mere reservation) is worth it. We have the technology and means to allow so many more benefits to a pre-order, such as the "Guaranteed Beta Access, 3-day head start and Exclusive in-game Item". While that's great and all, I for one didn't pre-order the game to receive benefits at an unknown release date some time from now. Rather, I expected at least to be able to try out the Character Creator feature in the mean time. I feel that in this ever-growing Internet Era, where options are everything and they mean more than ever before, we should be able to have this one thing. I don't care as much about the beta access, the feature I want for pre-ordering is the Character Creator. Nothing more, nothing less.--Sesuko 22:15, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
"I" "I" "I"
And that's where you're wrong. The world doesn't cater to "I"; the world caters to the sector of the affected population with the highest influence. They could allow everyone access to Character Creator offline, and it'd be cool, yeah. Lots of people wouldn't care, and ArenaNet doesn't feel that the benefits that giving the feature to the people that would care do not outweigh the associated drawbacks (e.g. time, effort, security). Sucks. — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 22:52, 15 Jun 2012 (UTC)
The world may cater to the larger vote but it's important to remember that every opinion starts with one individual. I've posted this idea here to serve as a place for people of similar interest to raise their voice and then we'll see the true numbers. Don't be so quick to assume one side is greater than the other and neither will I.
Do you really not care to have offline access to character creation? Could it be because you've already tasted Guild Wars 2? Not everyone else has.--Sesuko 00:01, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
Oh, I'd like the feature. I think a lot of people would care for it. The point is that ANet doesn't think that the costs are worth the benefits, in this case. — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 22:09, 18 Jun 2012 (UTC)
I would love to hear what the developers at Arena Net think about this.--Sesuko 23:58, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
Seeing as the client requires various data from the game server for the creator to work properly, I doubt you'll be seeing any offline features--creator or otherwise. 78.47.250.35 00:17, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
