Feedback talk:User/Shai Halud/Discourage Constant Jumping

i never found people jumping all the time that annoying, but i get the impression every1 else thinks its is. the best fix i've seen in a mmo was a variant of ur first idea you could do long jumps, and high jumps. high jumps don't get you very far. the long jumps are more realistic in that, while yes your jumps do move you a lot faster for the jump, you must regain your balance afterwords (pretty much an aftercast delay of about 1.5 seconds after a long jump).Akbaroth 18:46, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

I played a trial of WoW, and was not distracted at all by the people jumping. It wasn't that big of a deal. I liked the inclusion of jumping, and I used it to jump off of stuff like cliffs. It was fun to bunny hop all over and if I could, I probably would do it in Guild Wars, just for some more buttons to hit. It's not like this is an FPS where bunny hopping is going to mess up your aim; it's an MMO. If you can target them, then it doesn't really matter if they are jumping around. Let them have their fun! haha FloppyJoe 02:11, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Umm, no, I'd rather not. I think I'll add Akbaroth's idea.--Shai Halud 07:21, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
I also find people jumping around like retards annoying. User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 11:05, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
I don't find it annoying, you must be picky if you find it annoying. - Giant Nuker 11:07, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

I'd prefer both a stamina bar like in diablo II and a short aftercast delay, it would stop people from spam jumping like in wow and eventually also from running like morons in PvP. Also being able to sprint for a short duration wouldn't be terrible. --Cursed Angel Q.Q 11:25, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

I'm violently tempted to start a guild that's based on stalking you and using /jump emote. Then again I'm far too lazy. Anyway if this really annoys people just stick with the first suggestion. Rypofalem 21:42, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

@Shai Halud - Great, just what we need.. another Robert Kotick. Anyway, jumping around would be similar to emoting now. It wouldn't really effect how you play the game; it would be something someone else would be doing in the background. I like Rypofalem's idea. FloppyJoe 03:17, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
No I really like my idea for enemies jumping out of the ground to attack noisy players. It should probably only be in certain areas but once people know such areas exist and jumping doesn't get them to move any faster, they probably won't bother doing it much anywhere. Of course there are trolls who will try it in town so... unless some of those areas were towns.--Shai Halud 12:22, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
I like that idea. It would add an extra element to the game, if they added certain areas in which you could not jump or do certain things, because they would give off too much noise and aggro the enemies. However, bunny hopping is something that any game with jumping will have and I will be glad to do it everywhere. Maybe everything will still be instanced, so you won't see me while I'm running around jumping like a mad man, so it wouldn't matter? You'd just see me in town, and I already /dance and things in town while I'm afk and what not. FloppyJoe 14:28, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Supposedly GW2 won't be instanced except in missions and dungeons.[1] Rypofalem 22:04, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

I would like jumping to be a command you can use all the time because (and I know this from WoW) when you are going long distances and because you are staying on the paths there are no enemies just walking is boring so jumping adds something to do while you are mindlessly going from this town to that town. - Giant Nuker 11:22, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Except that there will be map travel. So why are you mindlessly roaming from town to town?--Shai Halud 18:25, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
If you don't have that town you will have to walk to it. - Giant Nuker 11:01, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
That's called exploring, not mindlessly roaming and you only have to do it once. You're not bored, you jut like being annoying.--Shai Halud 16:18, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

ANET, PLEASE REMOVE THE ABILITY TO VIEW ALL OTHER HUMAN PLAYERS BECAUSE I AM SO ANTISOCIAL AND RETARDED ENOUGH TO GET ANNOYED STARING AT PEOPLE JUMPING. owait. I can choose to NOT look at them :/. Or not play a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER online game. Pika Fan 16:27, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

I agree with you Pika Fan, that was totally called for. - Giant Nuker 20:03, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
OH GOD! SOMEONE IS ANNOYED BY ME! I MUST INSULT THEM IN LESS THAN NINE MINUTES SO I CAN GO BACK TO JUMPING AROUND IN MMOS LIKE THE GIANT DOUCHE I AM TO SATISFY MY CONSTANT NEED FOR ATTENTION BECAUSE MY MOTHER COMMITTED SUICIDE AFTER GIVING BIRTH TO A FREAK LIKE ME! Wait! I forgot. I COULD JUST KILL MYSELF. THEN SOMEONE IN REAL LIFE MIGHT ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT ME! BEGH! Now go ahead and report me like the freakin' pussy you know you are.--Shai Halud 16:27, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

I support this.[edit]

I agree with this article. My favorite solution would be number 7 (regaining balance), because it feels the most natural in a game; having a stamina bar, or the pips mentioned in number 2, feel like they're in there for the sole purpose of limiting things. You could also make it so that jumping is not a command, but a reaction to the environment; touch an edge and you jump, push a fence and you hop over. —Kohan 02:30, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

I dont Support this[edit]

Like pika put it,its a optional thing. DOnt like bunny hopping then dont do it. Stop worring about what other players do. Stop trying to limit gameplay to others just because you dont like something. Damn, we already was limited by Gear choices and Small Action bar. Why limit Crafting and jumping to? Silly. Damn people are bitter, and always wana spoil the fun of others. Let me guess. You from United States/UK right?--Knighthonor 08:13, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Remember when Mysterious Tonics came out and Kamadan AD1 turned into a zoo? Did you find that at all ridiculous? User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 14:50, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
I thought that was awesome and for once I am agreeing with Knighthonor. - Giant Nuker 21:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
That's well and good. The point I was trying to make was that there are, essentially, two groups of players.
It won't bother a lot of people; a lot of people don't care how nonsensical things get, and that's fine for them. Implementing this suggestion obviously wouldn't be for those people, though it probably wouldn't hurt them at all, either.
The people it will bother, though, it will bother because it really breaks the immersion experience. And conversely to the little-to-no adverse affect that implementing this would have on the people who jumping does not bother, allowing the lolbunnyhops would have a tangible negative effect on that immersion for everyone.
