Feedback talk:User/Stigtrix/Naming rules and tips when creating a character

Your idea is ok, but still its fun to see "stupid names"running around. They show you more who is that player actually is. Personally, i liked the name you put there Fried Rice and also Ipwn Uhard. I don't consider them offensive, but just funny.

Suggestions? Sure. But isn't st00pid in the eye of the beholder?[edit]

I like your idea to offer suggested names for characters (e.g. based on race, class, or perhaps something else). A lot of people I know hate to have to be creative about what to call a toon.

However, I do not support enforcing any rules on naming other than what ANet already does (and, actually, they do suspend and even ban people for repeatedly trying to avoid the spirit of the EULA on this). (BTW: they only review an account for name violations if someone reports it; there are just too many new toons being created each day for ANet to vet them all.)

I think it's up to ANet to provide a great game and a safe community in which to play in. After that, I think the rest is up to us: how we play, with whom we play, whether we role play or play ourselves, and, last but not least for many, how we name our characters.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:16, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Nope x)[edit]

When you force players to make a name that isn't funnny/dumb, you'll just end up with dumber ones.. So like, since a lot of people will be wanting to play the game, coming up with apporpiate names will be super duper omega ultra uber hard. And you'll end up with names like Trognor Powerfeeler or Greg Verybrave. Like the first person at the top said, stupid names are pretty entertaining, especially when you target people "I'm attacking Your Own Mother!". --Eclipse143 21:30, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

I think it's good to pick any name you like. Easier to see what people you might wanna avoid party with. ...or in PvP, people with names like "Noob Pwner" and similar tends to get more 'attention' from skilled players. ;) - Ander01 13:27, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Different languages/ Its good to not know bad words[edit]

1. i hate X Name X stuff, too. I have such charakters and i hate their names already for a long time... But at least, there are many Persons who wish to name their Charakter with a name who is already used and an ugly X is a good alternate i think.
2. like said above, funny names are funny and so far they dont include bad information i love funny names. Furthermore i love the idea of everyone has a name which works out with the game (especially for RPG), but on the one side its hard for me to give my charkters names that are typical for them and nice for me, i dont like to create a names complete out of my mind like kreata miutota, to use names like in reality like laura browning (exists for sure, but this is only a sample) or give standard names like Brandor Shamanslaughter (for a Charr), on the other side funny names are great to remember them, if you are named like any NPC and any other RPC in the Game, the Names miss something special, but funny names like "I'm attacking Your Own Mother!" (although i dont like this one) can be easyly remebered.
3. the most important stuff. Its obviously that the most bad names are created on purpose, but it is inevitable that there are names created that include bad words in an other language or funny names that has a second bad meaning the user didnt know. For example, thick can be used as bad word, but isnt really bad, so "This Pancake Is Thick" (its on purpose too long) would be a funny name (i dont like again^^), but the game exists in german and you dont need to know any english word to play it, but in german this name would be "Dieser Pfannkuchen Ist Dick". It would be great to never see bad names again, but to punish everyone would be too hard, but it is not makeable for Anet to see in all user heads and the obviously bad words like in my example are already prohibited during creation. --Naruuu 18:49, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
