Feedback talk:User/Xadus/Guild Wars 2: Weapon Skills

I've seen a lot of comments on the lack of amount on skills for GuildWars2, and I agree mostly with how the GuildWars2 team have said, that having a pool of useful skills is better than having a load of useless ones. However, I feel that the fixed Weapon Skills might mean that not everyone gets to play their weapon in the style which they would like. People might have different views of playstyles when they pick a single weapon, I might pick up a Greatsword because I feel that it should be a heavy hitting weapon that knocks the opponent hard and leaving them stunned, but another person may be wielding it looking to use it to block/parry attacks.

Just like how different classes have different skills when using a same weapon, a single class may also have a few ways they can use a single weapon. If we can have more skills unlocked after the initial 5 ( Every skill from 2 to 5 can have an alternative to let players choose from ), say after hitting a certain amount of "mastery", they will be more combinations available, and more customization to playstyles.

Hammer Example:

Slot 2: an attack that drops opponents' physical effectiveness through weakness. <> alternative skill option that inflicts daze to drop opponents' spells/skills effectiveness through daze

Slot 3: a crowd control inflicting cripple <> alternative option to give nearby allies swiftness

Slot 4: a pushback effect <> alternative to hit the opponents and jump back

Slot 5: a Knockdown effect <> alternative to Stun

Some of the examples above might not be really good, but the main idea is to let the player be able to choose how to achieve their target with a different approach.

Greatsword Example:

Slot 2: Multiple hits, extra damage <> Single hit for massive damage

Slot 3: Movement tool with line aoe damage <> Leap to foe, damage and pushback target and nearby foes

Slot 4: Line Cripple, slows enemies for chase/escape <> Shout that grants swiftness to nearby allies and self

Slot 5: Gap closer, brings fight to opponent <> Parry the next attack with Greatsword and strikes the enemy

This examples show how it can be made to enable players to slightly change their style with a single weapon, and also some which like the hammer example giving similar effects/outcomes through different approaches.

By adding just one option for every skill from 2 to 5 will enable so many more different combinations for players.

I understand that the game is near launch, but I think this will enable people to customize their playstyle greatly and not be stuck onto the playstyle that is being fixed by the developers, while the gamedevs can still balance base on what each skills slot does (so people can't match to have too many crowdcontrol, etc), I think it would be great option for players. Perhaps even a feature for post-launch? :) Aeongg 18:08, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
