Update "Removal of content" ADVERTISING: trading posts and guilds event self-promotions[edit]

Example

New proposal: Bad practice turns to bad habit and bad example to newcomers. Update this guideline so users can clean-up users/guilds advertising and reduce bookkeeping/maintenance.User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 07:06, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

What is your specific proposal?
I have three concerns about adding rules to talk pages:
  1. More rules requires more maintenance. Unless someone chooses to enforce the rules all the time, the inevitable absence of enforcement leads to the perception that there isn't a rule, which is worse than no rule.
  2. Extra enforcement is often bad for community projects, since it means a less open environment for potential new contributors. It's discouraging for people to be told they are doing something wrong. Plus: stuff like this often inspires dramatic responses (often RickRolls or trolling, but no need to provide them with ammunition).
  3. Mostly importantly, what difference does it make to the wiki?
In the listed example, the wiki wasn't harmed. The first comment is actually legit imo: the guy just stated a preference. The trade offer is out of order, but no one responded, so, again, no harm done. The third was a guild mentioning a community event ... and we actually list those as mainspace articles sometimes.
So while these aren't useful posts (or even appropriate), IMO they aren't worth the effort to remove.
In short, I don't think anything is broken at the moment, so there's nothing to fix. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:22, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
What exactly is your "example" link showing? All I see that you've accidentally removed a paragraph and did some re-organising of the talk page (which I don't think you should need to do so). -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 06:57, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
