Are user page edits minor edits?[edit]

Asking you because this page said I could ^_^. Is there an unofficial policy on marking edits to user pages as "minor?" I feel like I should, as such edits are secondary in importance to GW content edits, and may be readily excluded from the "Recent changes" section by those seeking to keep up on more important (less unimportant?) edits to the wiki. The minor edit page seems to imply that if an edit is not likely to be disputed, it may be marked as minor. So, is marking edits to user pages as "minor " a matter of preference?
P.S. This is a matter of truly minor importance, but thanks for your help anyway. --Threid Threid's talk page 08:50, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

By convention, user namespace edits are marked minor. Some users also mark talk page edits as minor as well. Content changes are minor for "small changes" but "small changes" was never defined for this wiki so whether an edit is marked minor or not is of small issue on this wiki. Personally, my preferences has minor edit marked by default. I only unmark it if I'm making large changes to an article such as adding new stuff, rewriting paragraphs or reorganising content. Hope that helps :) -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 13:25, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
That makes sense to me; thanks. I'll continue to mark user and talk page edits as minor. --Threid Threid's talk page 19:53, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Aber's and that IP's edits were in completely different lines, so I don't really see a combination. And I guess the IP was just Raven updating his drops without logging in first. poke | talk 15:33, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

UBX creation[edit]

i noticed your UBX page that details what to put in a UBX to get it to do what you want, but my question is in the creation of the UBX itself. I have noticed that everyones UBX tracks back to them based on the name. what i am trying to do is create my own so i dont have to keep using other peoples stuff. Can you please enlighten me on that part of it? much appriciated.
--Harbingerofdoom 20:04, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to assume that UBX is userbox; I haven't heard that acronym before. I'm also unsure what you mean by "tracks by to them based on the name". My userbox template is at User:Ab.er.rant/T/Userbox. Essentially, it's just a page that's in my user space, hence my user page name being the prefix of the userbox page name. I assume that's what you mean when you said you don't want to refer to another person's username. It's actually simpler to just use something another person has created as it saves you the trouble, of course, the problem is when that template gets changed without you noticing. If you want to create your own subpages, simply type in the name you want following your username, for example "User:Harbingerofdoom/Mypagetemplate" or something. It's just like creating any other page. You can copy wholly or partially someone else's templates and then start playing around with it and see how it works. Hope that helps. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 01:11, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Fixing feedback talk[edit]

Hi Ab.er.rant, thanks for deleting that redirect. Unfortunately, somewhere in the mix, both the "right" page, and the "wrong" page got talk page edits, so I couldn't move the talk page to the correct location. Since they both have a history now, do they need to be merged somehow? (Referring to Feedback talk:User/Ashestokisses/Underworld and Feedback talk:User/ashestokisses/Underworld, by the way). -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 12:24, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Well, merging can be done, mostly by moving to a new page, and then overwriting, and then undeleting the original revisions. The second talk page doesn't seem all that important and wouldn't it be simpler to just copy-paste it over? -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 12:32, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
It would. I didn't really look at the contents of the second page. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 12:34, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello[edit]

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Orim_Elkel .. this is most curious to me, how did that page come about in the first place? You see, thats the name of one of my characters, I came across it on google and had a wtf moment, can you enlighten me? Best hopes, Daniel Frozenwind 23:40, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Well, according to the revision log, it was created by User:Zora and marked as a future update to the game. He/She added some dialogue and noted that Orim is a Costume Maker. No explanation or reason was given as to why he/she created that page, so it was subsequently deleted. So you may want to ask Zora about it. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 23:45, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

infobox help?[edit]

How do I create a box like an archive box,but it has multi-purpose (i.e. user subpage links)?--Elementalmen 01:16, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Well, it's a lot to explain. For starters, try to find a user page that has something you'd like to do. Look at the wiki code behind it by clicking on "edit". You can play around with it by using preview to see what it does (just don't save it ;). Most of the time, it's a lot to do with learning how to use templates, but it's also a bit of HTML and CSS. You'll need to be a bit more specific with your questions.
I remember an old user page guide someone wrote.... <goes off to search for it> .... there we go. Hope that helps a bit. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 15:53, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Like the big box you use to store your userboxes.....<searching>.....example2:User:Seru's useful links box.--Elementalmen 23:23, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Sure, I basically used wiki code to split my page into different table cells. You can find information on wiki tables here. And if you looked at my page or Seru's, you'll notice the double braces ({{). Those are used for page inclusions and wiki templates. If you scroll down on the edit page, below the edit box and the save page button, you'll find links to any embedded pages or templates used in the current page. You'll find that the links corresponds to the wiki code wrapped inside those double braces. Some stuff on templates here. You can start actually copying my user page or Seru's to yours and use preview to see how it all hangs together. I'm sorry if I'm a little slow in responding. I'm not really active around here anymore. :) -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 16:04, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Nice :) Just keep having fun with your user page. And before you know it, you'll be helping to maintain the articles in this place. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 15:23, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

I found the template stuff, but how do I use stuff like to get what you did?--Elementalmen 13:40, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

It's just a template. See Help:Templates. If you edit that page, you'll see {1px solid black} (notice the triple braces). Triple braces means it's a template parameter. The value after the vertical bar means default value. So border will be "1px solid black" if you use the template like so . But if you use , then "2px solid red" will get applied to the border parameter. I just used that template as a convenient way for me to specify the CSS for my wiki tables. For much more details on templates, you can also refer to Wikipedia's template help page -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 14:20, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

How can I get one of those little icons in my signature?--Elementalmen 17:08, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

In your user preferences, there's a box for your signature. You can use it to link to an icon. It's been a while, so I'm not clear on whether there's any guidelines changes on the signature. So take a look at 1 too. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 02:06, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Space after asterisk (except when it rhymes with neighbor or weigh)[edit]

I notice you have been removing the spaces between wikicode and content as you go about updating the notes for various explorables. When I edit, I almost always add that space in, because it separates form/style from content. It also makes it easier for other contributors by removing clutter.

While I certainly don't wish to force a cosmetic requirement on any editor, I don't understand the advantage of removing the white space. Then again, there's more about html/wikicode that I don't understand than there is that I do, so maybe I'm missing something. Could you explain your reasoning? Thanks! — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:40, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

There was a bit of discussion about this a while back - Guild Wars Wiki talk:Formatting/NPCs#Small spacing change proposal. Personally, I think a space is better than no space, but I'm not particularly fussed. pling User Pling sig.png 18:39, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Imo, as long as we don't have edit wars over that particular spacing, I don't see a problem with adjusting it to your personal preference when you edit multiple parts of a page.. poke | talk 19:52, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
My concern is that removing space is not a neutral choice: it makes things harder for a subset of people. In contrast, adding the space is either a minor annoyance or a net benefit for others. In other words, I don't think this is solely a question of personal preference. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:07, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
I add spacing to like the skill pages on notes, etc. to make things more "clear" than codings jumbled up closer together with words. To me, spacing helps most minds and I think it's more of a benefit than harm. I've noticed most users add the space, I've only seen rarely few to take it away and it is a curiousity as to why, when the majority does the other way. Imo, apparently it seems more practical for the majority to add the space. Why the removal? Sure, it's not something to rv over, but it's a puzzle that I think would be an interesting answer to. :-) Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 20:27, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
It's just habit. That's the way I've been typing them over the years ever since I started. If it's not the norm now, I'll try to stop myself from getting rid of that mildly annoying whitespace :) -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 02:02, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks :-) (Habits are hard to break: it took me years after getting my first Mac to stop putting two spaces after a period, even though computer fonts since 1984 automatically add the required white space.)Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:09, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Category: Guilds[edit]

Hello. I want to add more categories to the guilds list, like "MQSC guilds" and also "Recruiting MQSC guilds" but the coding there is something totally new to me. Yoshida Keiji 06:28, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

You don't add to the "Category:" pages by directly editing it. You start by adding to the bottom of your guild page. When you save it, you'll notice that the category link is red. Click on it, paste into it, then save it. You'll now have nicely created a child category under Category:Farming guilds. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 07:12, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Category:Drop and salvage research[edit]

Hello this is the first time I've talked to you. I wanted to ask what happened with this category as today it is the first time I only saw it after following Guild_Wars_Wiki:Projects/Drop_research. I am aware that you created that category due to page history: http://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Category:Drop_and_salvage_research&action=history Also, I wanted to ask what do you think of Category_talk:Ongoing_drop_research changing to Category:Drop research needed.

I don't understand why the category you have created has not replaced the previous one. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 14:13, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

I honestly do not remember given that the drop research project was started and then pretty much petered out when nobody figured out what to do with the data. But looking at history, I believe I created the category because the old category was "Category:Drop/Salvage Research", which I didn't like. I think at that time, I wasn't even aware of the "Category:Ongoing_drop_research", considering it was created even earlier. I will add in my thoughts on that category talk page. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 15:18, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Associated page deleted reason - speedy or no?[edit]

I thought that fell under "G4: Housekeeping. Non-controversial deletions needed because of planned and previously discussed maintenance." - particularly the "previously discussed maintenance" because quite frankly, deletion of talk pages should go alongside deletion of the main page. And if it isn't a speedy reason, don't you think it's kinda silly not to have it counted? Konig/talk 21:55, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Nope, housekeeping is more about deleting content pages, not talk pages. Talk page deletions are usually not speedy unless it's vandalism. The GWW:DP hasn't changeed so I was assuming things are still the same - unless a different norm has arisen while I was away. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 06:13, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
None has, and useful talk pages (with conversations that led to the deletion of the corresponding page or several pages) are usually still kept. I treat the useless ones as Speedy, though. -Auron 06:56, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
Im not sure, if it is about me, and i dont understand the text well, but ty for the deletions. --Naruuu 18:11, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Deletion of List of Prophecies bosses[edit]

Can you not delete pages which are being discussed and worked on revamping? >.> Makes it hard to work on them (things have slowed down thanks to BWE3, but they're still in-progress). I guess its fine the articles are deleted but please do not delete the talk page until the discussion is finished (unless you know of a better place for said discussion). Konig/talk 19:29, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

I deleted them because the discussion did not appear to be in contesting the deletion. Sorry if I misread. And it's a habit I have to also mark the associated talk pages. Retaining the talk page is fine, or you guys can continue the discussion on the sandbox page, or maybe just move one of the sandbox pages to mainspace and continue discussion there. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 02:27, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
