Talk:List of Prophecies bosses
First impressions[edit]
Much though I like this page (I love lists!) it needs some work. I'm sure some skilled wiki wizard can make the tables collapsible, thereby negating the need for separate pages, plus there are three notes yet some bosses have indication of a fourth - though I would guess that it should have been 3. Also, there are many bosses with "unknown" against unique drop, which I guess is because the corresponding boss page has no drop info. Basically, the only Prophecies bosses that drop greens are those in Grenth's Footprint, Sorrow's Furnace and a few special cases added since then. In a nutshell, if the boss page doesn't have an unique drop for that boss, there isn't one. There are no unknowns. --snograt 12:20, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
- I get the feeling this is some kind of massive copy of one of those other ridiculous single profession lists I once cleaned up to remove "unknown" from :/ (those were deleted!). You can easily make the tables both sortable and expandable by typing
class="sortable collapsible"
or "expandable" in the place of "collapsible" - but you'd want to use fixed widths in that case, otherwise the headings slide around. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 12:23, 26 June 2012 (UTC)- Yeah, I should have posted that comment on CrazyRabidSquirrel's page, in case some passing admin thought I was the page creator seeking advice ^_^ --snograt 12:38, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
- Ok I ran a quick cleanup on the <br>, the {{unknown}} and the boss names (e.g. no point specifying Snow Ettin (monk) if its in a list of monk bosses. I'm against applying collapsing tables since people generally will look at the slowly loading page with 6 boxes with hide/show written on them and then not touch the collapsing buttons... - It was mainly copy and paste from the profession categories (eg.List of warrior bosses) category. When I did the List of Factions bosses, I actually compiled most of the information on my own. That took a really long time, though. I did add quite a few locations to bosses whose location was previously listed as "unknown" on this page. My original intent was to complete the Bosses by Campaign, and re-add it to the Category:Bosses. I also saw the discussion on the entire category here. However, since these pages are still accessible, I figured I'd put some information in them, at least, to get rid of the dead links and finish out the category. Personally, I don't see the need for repetitive lists like this one since, in game, I only use this one List of elite skills by capture location. If these pages are to be kept, perhaps a simpler format is better like the one used here for indexing purposes only. CrazyRabidSquirrel 16:01, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
- If you don't care, I'm going to go ahead merge List of Prophecies bosses, List of Factions bosses, and List of Nightfall bosses to their respective Lists by Capture location. I'll place a redirect on each of these 3 pages. I think the only one that might have useful information to add to the capture page is the Prophecies list, and I can check that one before I merge it. I'll record the merge in edit summary and talk page due to legal issues. I know these categories were once a Wiki Project, but I'm not sure that these pages necessarily qualify as part of that project. Let me know what you guys think. --CrazyRabidSquirrel 16:18, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
Wasn't merged[edit]
In regards to this, List of Factions bosses and List of Nightfall bosses, they were not merged as per the tag. Instead, nothing was done other than the removal of the tag. The merge wasn't for content, which apparently CrazyRabidSquirrel thought, but rather, as I initially (poorly) said in the merge tags (before I remembered that merge tags don't carry explanation parameters like normal tags, which imo should be changed cuz it's highly annoying): "Two lists, same information, different formats" (I wouldn't have added a merge tag for two pages holding the same information, instead I would have just tagged for deletion under an unnecessary duplicate list)
But allow me to elaborate: This (and similar lists) are redundant if one knows how to read the other lists, which lack information which these lists have (specifically of interest imo is the Unique Drop column). I was trying to propose a change of format to the "List of elite skills by <campaign> capture location" because the pre-existing list is not as helpful.
And while on the topic, these lists can also be merged with List of Prophecies unique items by drop location and similar articles which are just as helpful (in that they're made for concision over effective documentation).
Last note, they weren't merged at all, there was just "okay hey they're merged!" by CrazyRabidSquirrel with no content altered other than a single word. Konig/talk 19:46, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know, Konig - maybe CRS was tagging first, them planning on merging when he worked out how? I would have hesitated to revert without asking him first, tbh. Then again, maybe you did and I missed that part :) --snograt 20:15, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Your'e 100% correct Konig. See the discussion here and here and above. I was trying to do something the GWW has no guide on, it probably should have just been a delete. When I asked for input, nobody responded, so I did the best I could to figure out the merge process is supposed to work. --CrazyRabidSquirrel 20:19, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) @CRS: You waited about a day on a decreasing-in-activity wiki. ._. Give folks time, wait a week in the future (I tend to do, or longer, before acting out things). I'm trying to figure out a good way to merge all three lists without having it insanely long like this one was (which sadly provided all necessary information). Kinda hard to do, at least with containing all information (such as greens dropped by non-bosses). Konig/talk 20:43, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Do you guys want to bring this list back? We can bring them back until a better option for a compilation list is presented. Originally, I intended to do the Beyond and EotN boss lists too. I put that idea on hold when you added the merge tag. I didn't want to unload all that other information to the Capture Lists since they already effectively serve their purpose. I figured I'd go ahead and say the lists were merged (to get rid of unnecessary duplication of content), and then work out the actual changes later. Perhaps, if we reformat these boss lists, they'll take less space while conveying the same information (like removing the skill icons). Alternatively, we could merge the tables on the bosses pages, allowing anyone to sort all the bosses listed by each listed category. This would actually make the Capture location lists obsolete as it would provide all the needed information at the click of a button. Let me know what you guys think, and this time I'll wait for longer than a day ;). Here is the compressed table, with all information, allowing sort for location, species, elite skill, unique drop, and name. --CrazyRabidSquirrel 21:29, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- There are, imo, only five things needed in a list of bosses: Name, profession, location, elite (if viable), and unique item (if viable). Thing is, it's not these articles which are redudant or unnecessary, it's the older "List of elite skills by capture location" pages that are, because everything they have is here too - difference is the format, where here you can ctrl F the boss name, and this also lists the unique item.
- Issue with this list, however, is the length - and that's the main thing to try to fix. First thing to do would be remove the old species column and perhaps replace with profession so that we don't have the lists divided into sections by profession (should reduce a bit). Konig/talk 00:50, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
- Here is my sandbox. I think replacing the species is a great idea, I'm gonna see what it looks like in my Sandbox. Also, I merged the tables. Now they can be completely sorted. So we're for bringing the lists back? --CrazyRabidSquirrel 01:14, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm gonna be gone until next Friday the 27th, so I won't be able to work on the tables again until then. All three are up there in my Sandboxes (Nightfall bosses, Prophecies bosses, and Factions bosses), so you can improve/change them however you want. If you guys decide to undo the redirect and request for deletion, you can go ahead and copy them from those Sandboxes. I will need to check them against the Capture by location and unique drop lists to make sure they're comprehensive. Eventually (if we bring these list back), we'll have to decide what to do with the Capture location and Uniqe drop lists (since these will be redundant), or if we can just leave them alone. I think we should leave the "sortable" on the Name, Location, and Elite Skill columns only, it doesn't even seem to work on the profession one anyway. Be back in a week! --CrazyRabidSquirrel 15:02, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
