Hey[edit]
I'm new to the wiki, though I do play Guild Wars a lot. It's just that I don't know anybody at the moment and here, and I was wondering if you could give me some help on starting my User Page and making it look good, and introduce me to new people. Thanks, Remy 13:14, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hi and welcome :) For starters, if you need editing help, try Help:Editing. For user pages, take a look at GWW:USER, Category:Users providing user page layouts and Y0 ich halt's user page guide. If you need more specific wiki help, you can also post questions at Help:Ask a wiki question or ask one of our volunteer helpers. As for getting to know people, generally, participating in talk page discussions for articles, policies, and guidelines will let you see who are the more active users around here. If you see a discussion about something you're interested in, feel free to just jump into the discussion and offer up your thoughts. -- ab.er.rant 15:08, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Quest format?[edit]
Would 'benefit' be good enough? As in 'Benefits from accepting the quest' mtew 18:10, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- I guess I'm okay with that. -- ab.er.rant 01:35, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: The Tribunal[edit]
//wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Template:Explorable_areas_in_Istan&diff=1296023&oldid=842111
I think you misunderstood my editcomment. It is an explorable area, but it is one of those that only exists for a quest to take place in. There are plenty of these, and none of the others are on the region ea navbar. I could see including them, but it should either be all or none. Just what some symetry. Backsword 08:35, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, in that case, shouldn't we add them rather than remove them? Are you referring to all those mini-mission type of areas as well? -- ab.er.rant 10:13, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, those too. Basically, the standard I was following was that only those who's name get's to stay on the world map after you leave you leave them goes on the navbar, as I believe that's the established standard. No strong position on it myself, other than maintaining an equal treatment. Backsword 10:15, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Also consider if it adds to the cartography title. mtew 13:05, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Devona[edit]
Her Tactics is 11 or 12 because of her elite Charge which lasts 11 seconds. Can I change it back to 11 or 12 Tactics?...Bive (talk · contributions)

Image cache[edit]
The cache is taking as long as 48 hrs to clear new images atm. You may want to just leave them. -- Wyn 03:17, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- Ok. Was just cropping that one gallery after I noticed a user trying to upload an image. -- ab.er.rant 03:18, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, it got all glitchy again this weekend, just thought I'd mention it. -- Wyn 03:24, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
single-player games[edit]
Are you playing/have you played fallout 3? -Auron 16:03, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- Played, uninstalled. Found it pretty interesting, and somewhat true to the series, but I suffer from nausea on certain 3D games and Bethesda games is among those that are guaranteed to make me feel sick after a couple of minutes. -- ab.er.rant 17:26, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- I always felt like a pansy getting sick from "3D" video games; I have to keep at them for a few weeks/months to build up my tolerance. It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one. :( Vili 00:38, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- Same here, but I googled around once and found that it was theorized to be a form of motion sickness. I also found some guy who blogged about using carsick pills plus lots of caffeine as a form of "prevention" prior to a play session, but didn't try it. I kept at Fallout 3 until I a bit after I got out of the vault, but figured it wasn't worth the discomfort I'm getting. -- ab.er.rant 02:01, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Do you mind?[edit]
If I use your hero tables? I've been trying to find a nice way to list all that, and yours works :D -- Wyn 04:12, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- Go ahead :) mebe you'll find the urge to improve on it and then I'll copy it back :D -- ab.er.rant 05:50, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for adding the template categories[edit]
I didn't know about using the display text for indexing. While I would have fixed that problem sometime, you did a better job than I would have. Thanks. mtew 19:10, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

My RFA[edit]
Hello Ab.er.rant, Although I would rather wait to get more votes on my RFA,(as at the moment it seems to be on the borderline of being successful/unsuccessful) it's been over a week now and I suppose it should probably be closed by a BC and decided upon. Anyway hope this message finds you well matey. -- Salome 13:50, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- No need to hurry it along. I'm inclined to follow the pattern that's occurring for RFAs, in that it's taking longer than a week to generate interest to a sufficient level. I wonder if it's due to the fact that many newer users aren't even aware of it. -- ab.er.rant 14:22, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm having to admit for newer users their is no easy way to link into RFA's. For those of us who knows what were doing we can find it, but the direct links to the page are a bit on the obscure side. -- Salome 14:35, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- Depending on the user. Maybe we should put new RfAs on the RfC for a few days? -Auron 14:46, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Heh finally[edit]
Congrats on the Elonian Grandmaster Cartographer :) I'm still trying to get Tyrian GC on my main character ... although actually playing would probably make it go faster. --Kakarot 16:47, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- Heh thx :D I'm targeting Factions next... or maybe EotN... either way, it'll be a really long while before I get my next max title. -- ab.er.rant 16:52, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
RE: Armour art comparison cell[edit]
Hi ab.er.rant, I've just checked in for the first time in ages, so forgive the lateness. If I understand you correctly; I'm glad I could help in a small way, I doubt I'll get around to changing everything, but if you wish too count this as written permission to change anything that needs changing to keep the wiki tidy. But don't feel you have to just because I said so ;). — Cloud Xan 21:00, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
The Frost Gate[edit]
I am sorry for any inconvenience I caused. Is everything fine by now? :S Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 13:34, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it :) That's the point of a wiki. One person adds content, someone else can fix whatever needs fixing. It's the content that's the most important. If it's valid content, add it in first; worry about formatting, style, and structure later on. -- ab.er.rant 13:45, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- I wonder why the note about the "Rurik killers" hasn't been recorded :O Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 13:47, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Effective excel to wikitable tools[edit]
Heya. I've been admiring your userpages (here and at wikia) and figured if anyone has a better technique for building tables... I'm used to using Excel tables to rearrange and pivot data to do minmax types of analysis, comparisons, etc. (Back in the day, I did some popular Might & Magic sites, Excel->html.) Converting the nice, shiny info-presenting matrices into wiki is a PITA, as I'm sure you know. Currently, I use a simple tab-delimit->wiki converter and run some regrep edits, but it's still mostly manual effort. After visiting the wikipedia links (picking up wikEd and the harvard converter), I'm convinced there's an easier way. And surely, Ab.er.rant knows. Or no? Thanks! Tennessee Ernie Ford 05:43, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- Unfortunately no, I don't have any experience doing things like that with Excel. -- ab.er.rant 13:07, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- Rats. Ok, thanks. Tennessee Ernie Ford 15:43, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not too sure about this, as I don't know how Excel exports its content as html. But you can use the
table
,tr
andtd
tags for creating a table on a wiki too. So if Excel doesn't export too much falderal, you should be able to simply copy it in here (after removing some unimportant parts at the beginning and end of course). poke | talk 15:56, 15 March 2009 (UTC)- Good idea. Alas, Excel is the king of falderol. At best, every row of a table gets its own css style, even if you've used styles or conditional formats. (I had hoped that Office 2k7 would fix this; though improved from previous exports, it's still uglier than editing wiki directly.) I hesitate to Open Office b/c I'm not sure that the OOO->wiki process is any better... --Tennessee Ernie Ford 18:42, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- Well, at least look at what OOo does. You might be pleasantly surprised. I have not done anything with its spread-sheet nor examined the HTML it generates, but you at least get someone who might listen to your requests for change with OOo. mtew 19:03, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- The normal reason to export something to HTML from Excel or its Open Office equivalent is to get a HTML output that looks the same like the sheet. There would be no reason to change that, and I doubt they will make a "export for wiki" feature (which you could easily write yourself in MS Excel btw). poke | talk 20:01, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
