As much as I like you and respect you Brains, I have one "candidate question": What makes you feel that you are a better/more qualified candidate than the others in the field of candidates (DE, Aiiane, Tanetris, Anja, SMG)? Calor 18:32, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

(Edit conflict) I wish I could answer that, but it's impossible. Some people on that list have a certain way of thinking different to others -- people vote/discuss on the way of thinking that they like best because that's what affects that candidate's actions. We've seen it before, with some saying that Aberrant would balance the twin pairing of Aiiane and Tanaric; Aiiane and Aberrant could balance Auron. So I can't really say if I'm better because I think the way that I think, and it's up to everyone else to decide whether that would be "better" -- it's why we have elections, RfAs and whatnot. I'm certainly not more qualified than Aiiane because she's seen it and done it, assuming experience is directly proportional to qualification.

That's what the whole discussion and voting phases are for anyway -- to find the "best" candidate; that's inherent to the system, so really, it should be you (the collective) answering that question, not me. -- Brains12 \ talk 20:31, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Question

(I'm also jumping on the bandwagon of people who ask the same question to all candidates, so bear with me a bit) I would like to ask, in what ways do you think being a bureaucrat would allow you to help the wiki more than as a common user or a sysop? Erasculio 02:13, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

The only major additions that differ to my role at the moment are arbitration and deciding on RfAs. It requires gauging of user responses, watching what happens in discussion or heated debates, and decision making; to be honest, it's not that different to being a sysop, but I guess the biggest difference between taking action as a sysop and discussing/watching discussion as a bureaucrat is that you have more time to formulate a decision, whereas sysop decisions should be, in most cases, immediate. As a bureaucrat, coming to that decision usually involves one taking part in a debate (whether contributing to it directly or observing), and I think I'm good at that -- perhaps more so than I am as a sysop. What's more is that my logic, my intellect, and especially my modesty, are more active during this period. Not that I'm saying I'm as dead as dodo as sysop or user, but the process of something happening -> discussion -> debate -> decision gives those little grey cells an extra kick. -- Brains12 \ talk 03:03, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

At this stage, I have my inklings as to which people I'll be voting for and against (or not at all); however, as this is the discussion phase, I may be swayed to another direction. I'll likely vote near the end of the voting stage, when most of the discussion has taken place.
