An early question for Pling, to be answered at his leisure.[edit]

Do you think the election system on GWW is working as intended? Would you be interested in exploring an alternate means of choosing bureaucrats? User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 18:04, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Apparently I picked the wrong time to become bcrat.. I didn't get ask a single question :( poke | talk 18:13, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
You can answer this one too. It's open to everyone. But if enough people get involved we'll have to move it to another page. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 19:07, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
Is this question open to anyone, or just admins/people who actually matter on this wiki? Vili 点 User talk:Vili 19:40, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
I said everyone, and everyone includes anyone. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 23:07, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
I rather wait for Pling to answer first (if he even bothers), I don't want to give him ideas :P poke | talk 09:25, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
I don't like this kind of election system, no, but it's not so disastrous that I want to put in the effort to change it immediately - it'll suffice for a wiki about a six-year-old game whose sequel will be out within a year. Since we introduced yearly terms, elections don't intrude much in wiki business, and The Unwashed Masses haven't yet promoted a completely inadequate bureaucrat. That's the pragmatic view - basically shrugging my shoulders and saying "meh".
The idealist view of what a bureaucrat should be probably runs along the same lines as Auron's - bureaucrat+sysop, indefinite terms, no arbcomm, discretion in deciding RfAs. When it comes to promoting new bureaucrats, I think an RfA/discussion-type system to gauge the community response would be better than outright promotion by a single bureaucrat or a "democratic" election - the role of discussion-based consensus is important.
How "interested" am I in implementing such a thing? Depends how easy it'll be. I'm not really interested in a full-blown GWW policy debate, partly because I cba and because I'm busy(ier) irl. If someone else suggests it, I'll +1 it. pling User Pling sig.png 13:08, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Oh dear, for once I agree 100% with something Pling says. Now I have nothing to write. Perhaps I will just add that regardless of how easy such a thing would be to implement, does it really matter this late into the game? Righting historical wrongs is nice, but the present-day benefit is not very large. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 18:11, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Personally I don't think it would take much effort. From what I've seen few people actually support the election system, they just all assume it would be too hard to change. We just need one good push. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 20:47, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Would be a good idea to try it for GW2W, wouldn't it? Haven't been there at all though, so maybe it's been changed already... -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 14:57, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
GW2W currently has a static hierarchy. It's lasted four years without complaints. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 22:36, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
