Guild Wars Wiki talk:Mailing list topics
- → moved from the project page
I believe that private discussions can be appropriate for certain topics (particularly dangerous ones involving legal issues or security threats), but can also be a sensitive issue for a wiki that is managed openly by the users. My main concern is if users start seeing adminship as a "private club" and suspect that important community decisions are being made behind closed doors. I intend to try maintaining a list here that gives an overview of what topics have been or are currently being discussed within the mailing list, so that the community is generally informed about what is going on there. This is with ArenaNet's explicit permission. --Rezyk
- I am no longer maintaining this list. --Rezyk 22:37, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Move[edit]
Hey Rezyk, I am not opposed to this, and considered setting something like this up earlier, but I believe that it would be more beneficial if it were not in your user space.
I also wonder if we should perhaps provide transcripts of the discussions once the topic has been resolved? This would add transparency, but still allow privacy while the topic was sensitive. We would, of course, need ArenaNet's approval of this, and we might have to do it on a topic by topic system, but I think it would be beneficial and show that we weren't simply acting in secret for our own ends. - Don't try to deny it, you lot are planning to steal my ectos! I can see through your web of deceit! --Dirigible 20:05, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
- I have no problem with moving this out of my user space, as long as somebody else plans to help maintain it. =) (I wasn't sure if anyone else was interested, and figured on avoiding getting into an argument about how a topic should be officially worded.) I'm not sure if full transcripts are a good idea -- some info can still be sensitive after resolution, and it might be better if we could talk freely without having to go over it with a black marker later. I guess it depends on what topics we really end up using it for. If we talk about security issues, transcripts might be a pain and not really maintained. If we just keep going over our plans to aid-ray irigible-day's orage-stay, then they're not so bad. --Rezyk 21:02, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
- Should we move this to Guild Wars Wiki:Mailing list topics, maybe? I think it'd be a good idea to make this page more visible. Plus, I kinda'd like to help out with keeping this updated. --Dirigible 19:23, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Rezyk's already said that he's fine with it, so I'd say go for it. MisterPepe talk 19:24, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sure; I'll try to get it up-to-date today, and then move it if nobody else has. --Rezyk 22:06, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update, Rezyk. Of course, I think my version was funnier =P MisterPepe talk 22:32, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, but mine is not as harsh on you. =) --Rezyk 22:35, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, right. I still need to rewrite that bot policy draft. Aannnddd... away I go! MisterPepe talk 22:39, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, that's another thing I said I planned on but never got around to. =P --Rezyk 22:42, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
"Some sysops/bureaucrats."[edit]
"A private mailing list (address purposely withheld) is set up for ArenaNet staff and some sysops/bureaucrats." Can this list of sysops/bureaucrats be made public? Like I said over here, I don't care about seeing the conversations verbatim, but I do care about who is involved. Is this an ANet-invite-only list? A Rezyk-invite-only list? What's the deal with it? -Auron 15:31, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- Not sure whether it's "all admins" or "ANet invite only", just asked this at User talk:Gaile Gray#Mailing list. So far it's Barek, Gares, Gem, Karlos, LordBiro, Rainith (? haven't seen anything from him, so not really sure), Tanaric, Xasxas, and me (Rezyk was part of the list as well till July 9th, when he decided to leave). Basically, all admins till the RFAs started. From the ANet side, I've seen Gaile Gray and Mike O'Brien. Hope that answers your question. --Dirigible 16:51, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- A Rezyk-invite-only list? o_O Just in case anybody has the wrong idea: I did not initiate this mailing list, and have never provided any input on who should or shouldn't be on it. --Rezyk 19:00, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- I believe Emily and someone else (can't remember his name, he is the server admin) have both contributed, wouldn't like to say for certain since I don't have the archive in front of me! LordBiro 19:50, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- Off the top of my head, I agree that Emily has participated, though I believe the server admin's message was forwarded by Gaile in response to something else. Not positive, though. —Tanaric 22:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
