Great Anti-N.O.X. build[edit]

Having a problem deactivating N.O.X? Here's a build that makes him easy.

Profession: Ranger/X

Attributes:

Wilderness Survival: 3

Marksmanship: 12

Expertise: 12

1. Marksman's Wager Marksman's Wager

2. Distracting Shot Distracting Shot

3. Concussion Shot Concussion Shot

4. Serpent's Quickness Serpent's Quickness

5. Troll Unguent Troll Unguent

6. Disrupting Shot Disrupting Shot

7. (any attack skill you want, I used Crossfire Crossfire)

8. Resurrection Signet Resurrection Signet

Just put this on a hero, lock the hero on N.O.X, and N.O.X. will hardly ever get a skill out. Diokana 11:48, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

That works, but personally, I just gave a Paragon hero Stunning Strike Stunning Strike, pressed C, pressed Space, and AFK'd the entire thing. -Faer 07:22, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

I personally went Pain Inverter the entire way along with 2 monks, MOX, SS, Healing Necro/Rit, and two other henchies I forgot. Keep pain inverter on NOX and he'll eventually kill himself from all the damage he suffers as a result. You can leave the other bits alone so that his attacks hit himself for even more. -kaheiyeh 09:32, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
I just tried using Pain Inverter- it barely did any damage to him. We were just plugging along very slowly until the last part, then all the guys exploded and killed my party. hmph. --98.196.19.143 22:26, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
tried right after that using the build above to interrupt, and still with pain inverter. still wiped when he got down to 1/3 health. fun stuff! --98.196.19.143 22:39, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Also consider adding Deep Wound in your build, with such high health it makes so much difference. 70.51.126.84 23:46, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Deep Wound actually becomes worthless against a foe with so much health and no healing. 24.179.144.91 23:03, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
After repeated failures i found a good(but slow) way of doing it.Pyre and i went with BHA(both of us because i didn't know if conditions end sooner on NOX),2 protective spirit heroes and Mhenlo, Cynn, Herta and Devona. It took a while to beat him but he only got anybody's health bellow 75% 2 or 3 times. So unless you really fail when stuff starts blowing up, you can't really fail with this. :P Super Range Ranger 20:55, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Also i forgot to say that this can be easily done with only 1 BHA hero. :P Super Range Ranger 20:57, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

N.O.X.[edit]

Someone on Guru says he has 75,000 HP. Based on the amount of trouble I'm having with him I have no difficulty believing that. Also, interrupting his skills does not prevent him from summoning the Bits, nor is it possible to kill the bits faster than they spawn; at least one spawns for every one that dies. His Ion Blaster skill seems uninterruptable. --User mrsmiles tinysmile.png MrSmiles 03:46, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

I certainly disagree with the bit about...bits. I don't know about the ion breaker thing though. If that's his 10 sec cast shot then, it's definately rupptable. I just beat this an hour ago with a team of:

1 UA Bonder(me) 2 hb monks 1 interrupt necro 1 daze sin 1 int ranger 1 sv necro with blood rit and 1 warrior The 3 interrupters stayed on nox the entire time while the warrior and necro took out bits as they popped up. Bits are pretty easy really, only taking a few attack skills to go down. BTW I highly recommend a bonder for this guy. He has such huge spikes. It made it alot easier for the healers and the few times I did rez it was instant with UA.ComfortOsprey 04:23, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Bringing a few copies of protective spirit is more then enough to keep all the team alive since theres no enchantment removal at all. OblivionDanny 04:45, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
I didn't even bother clearing out all of the bits. Once Prince Bokka left, I just cleared out one area and fought N.O.X. there for the rest of the time. It was pretty easy. Diokana 11:48, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

I went in there with 4 interrupts on heroes, which on the first runs wasn't enough to keep the occasional NOX Thunder from going off. On the 3rd run I said screw it, took a few nukers as heroes, and took Echo/Blackout myself specifically for things like the nigh-uninterruptable Ion Buster. Can't use it if it's disabled. Still took me forever to get his HP down even with Arcane Echo/Savanah Heat x3. I wouldn't doubt the 75,000 HP. Jaaz 06:50, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Walkthrough[edit]

I have added a summary on the walkthrough section, leaving some parts of it empty (I don't remember how much health N.O.X. has at the beginning of each stage, for example). Someone with a better grasp of English and able to add more information may want to rewrite it or complete what's there, but for now it will do. Erasculio 13:28, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Totally ignoring Nox#s bit golems can be pretty stupid because of blowing the small golems up after some time - three times with a total wipe because of that. No, really bad idea. Noctarch 23:59, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Good point. I didn't notice that since the heroes and henchmen took care of the nearby golems (despite how they were told to focus on N.O.X. -_-), but you're right. I have added a note on the walkthrough section about it, and also added a few lines about the hidden effect of Countdown. Erasculio 13:33, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

(near to)uninterruptable Ion Buster[edit]

Much like Kunaavang, but even harder to interrupt.

Daze ftw then. Every attack will have a chance to interrupt that thing. --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 19:46, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Best Quest in the Game[edit]

Easily. I walked into this quest underestimating how hard it was, and I got shut out twice. Fun quest, great boss, awesome design. One of the first great quests in Guild Wars.--The Gates Assassin 20:34, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Too easy imo, did it on the first try with a melee heavy team --User FlamingMetroid Metroidsig.pngMetroid 20:52, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Boss fights are meant to be this challenging, even in normal mode. I realized just now after defeating N.O.X. that GW bosses lack one thing that most other MMORPG bosses have, and that is regenerating mobs. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 121.54.92.58 (talk).
N.O.X Does have a constant supply of mobs coming in , the bits will keep spawning until N.O.X reaches a certain health percentage --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.13.21.213 (talk • contribs) at 18:41, 30 July 2011 (UTC).

Bokka Escapes[edit]

When I was doing this quest with some guildies Prince Bokka actually escaped so we didn't have to protect him the whole time. Does this always happen? Is this a rare a occurance that should be noted? 68.184.18.134 06:21, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Always happens, re-read the walkthru section and you'll see it's mentioned. --68.32.187.152 06:24, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
/facepalm, I'm dumb. 68.184.18.134 22:22, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Hmm... as I write this in 2010 the Prince is NOT leaving and keeps running to the furthest spawns-- out of healing range-- getting himself killed. No matter where we start or move to he won't say but he won't leave for safety either. We are all at 75%-100% health and he keeps dying and ending the mission. Very frustrating. Anyone encounter this and/or have a solution?

Distance[edit]

Why is this one so far from the port compared to the other two? Few of my characters are even close to getting that far into Vabbi (only one actually IS). The others are in areas right next to the ports to the region -- easily gotten to, even if you didn't have the location before. --71.240.84.93 04:33, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Are you serious? Why would the Prince be in Istani?--The Gates Assassin 14:56, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Renewal of trade contracts between Vabbi and Istan perhaps. Noctarch 15:17, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

I tried following the quest markers with an early stage character and for some odd reason they lead me into the desolation and towards the end of NF campaign. Funny as anything walking into the Sulphur.Farlong 16:17, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Life?[edit]

I would like to know How much life have NOX (and their brothers :D) (Sinchan 11:43, 8 September 2008 (UTC)).

They have none because they are machines. Noctarch 23:56, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Use the Rotscale farming team, I'm pretty sure it would work.--The Gates Assassin 22:59, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Edge of Extinction[edit]

I figured EoE would work very well in this quest (insta exploding golems killing N.O.X.). I tried it but I'm not sure if it really worked. Anyone else has any data about that?User Ereanor sig.jpgreanor 17:55, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

A bug?[edit]

I was doing this quest and failed. But what concerns me is that while I was on the stage three, Bokka suddenly appeared and just stood in front of N.O.X taking the damage and finally dying. So I failed. At first he fled like he was supposed to, but then he came back for some reason.

Happened to anyone else? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Calhaan (talk).--Calhaan 19:41, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Similar. At the point where Bokka is meant to run off, Nox had pinned him into a corner. Then when his reinforcements came (stage 2) they ripped Prince Bokka a new one and we failed. --Stu 17:53, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

The Prince can run off to far away spawns and be engaged with them before you realize. Don't flag so your healers can get to him. If his health bar starts dropping fast he is out of range and you need to get to him quickly. He can also get pinned as the poster above me describes. It is likely he is the chosen target of N.O.X when this happens. If he gets pinned try to kill off some spawns and let N.O.X. do the cast to pick another target. He is not safe until he drops off your party list. Otherwise he is in another part of the room trapped or fighting adds.--Smile66 06:08, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

N.O.X.[edit]

Is it possible that the name of this quest/opponent came from the game of the same name (Nox)? I know the term nox was popular in Diablo II when a hosted game was literally no-expansion, but whenever I see N.O.X. in-game I immediately think back to playing Nox. Just wanted to throw it out there that the name might have come from another game. - Ara the Elegant

Phase 3[edit]

So I'm having no trouble at all getting through the first two phases of N.O.X. But I have yet to successfully do this because as soon as he starts off Phase 3, I make sure my group is nowhere near any Golems but he just spawns them on the group and nukes us down anyways. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.65.214.235 (talk).

Phase 3 is the majorly poorly designed part of this thing. Part 1 is just warmup, it's fine. Part 2 actually takes a bit of skill and planning, it's good. Then you hit Part 3 where it's all down to whether or not NOX randomly drops two golems on you that insta-nukes your party. Knockdown combined with barely a second to get away? Come on, give us a chance here. I normally wouldn't care if this was something I could just skip, but I need to mash a character through this crap to be able to access the WiK content. You can't counter or interrupt his Phase 3 skills, really, especially not when considering that you can't stand still either. I wish ANet would get over the idea that the best way to make a boss is just immunities and high damage instead of interesting mechanics.PurpleXVI 04:45, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Take a Panic mesmer hero with you. They can interupt NOX for you. Ghosst I Make Dead PeopleTalk

Mesmers + Spirits[edit]

I am a ritualist and I bring three mesmer/ritualist heroes. It's slow but not a single skill successfully cast, and the only damage we suffer is the golem explosion, which the two monk henchmen take care of. To speed things, Painful bond is used to add 18+ damage to each spirit attack. At that time, I have around 15+ spirits.

Interrupt and clean-up[edit]

Key is interrupting NOX and taking out his minions. I found this not to hard with two interrupt/daze rangers heroes (without Broad Head Arrow) and one interrupt/drain mesmer hero all locked on NOX, while me (warrior) with help of the henchies took out the minions as much as possible during the first two stages. Cynn's AOE is quite effective against clustered minions. Then most of the damage comes from the occasional exploding minion during the last stage, the monks can handle that. The rest of the team consisted of Herta and 2 healer monks. I did put pain inverter on NOX a few times but i don't think that made much of a difference.

Hero and Henchmen Only[edit]

I only play Guild Wars with Heroes and Henchmen and had trouble with this yesterday. Today, I went healer/utility heavy and it was a one-shot. There might be easier ways posted but I had A LOT of fun doing it this way and thought I'd share:

  1. All heroes got: Mantra of Flame and Inspired Hex <--no recharge on monsters.
  2. Eve to help with Energy
  3. Sogolon for Hex/Conditions/Health/Damage/Rez all-in-one.
  4. Hero Protection monk and Henchman Holy monk.
  5. No flagging so my healers could chase after that hyper and suicidal prince.
  6. Gave myself multiple interrupts, Mantra of Flame and Frustration.

Mesmer secondary is fine. You don't need the Fast Casting attribute. Make it your responsibility to interrupt, watch for spawns on top of the team, and watch for party deaths. Let H/H do the damage. Interrupting is priority. Leave all spawns alone except if they pop right in the middle of your team and/or start surrounding you. In that case wait for your next interrupt, quickly cntrl click/priority a nearby spawn, and get right back on the boss. Let your H/H deal with them. Don't panic if you can't get all of them down before the explosion. I got a late spawn that somehow managed to take out 3 henchmen-- including Sogolon. I picked him up by forcing the rez I had disabled on my Hero monk. He took care of the rest. In Phase 3 do nothing but interrupt the boss. His casts seemed closer together in Phase 3 so know the most deadly ones in case you run into cool downs. I don't remember any deaths other than the explosion and all H/H were alive at the end. Being healer heavy this was a very long fight. It was also exciting. Enjoy!--Smile66 05:46, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Summary[edit]

  • Use the spiritway SOGM build with soul twist - will interupt basically everything
  • Use an SoS hero
  • Use wastrel's worry/demise spammer
  • UA prot monks are nice.
  • Gehaz can tank like a bitch, Odurra can interupt stuff and use VoR to kill things, Mhenlo can WOH you + bokka, eve can spam blood ritual on everyone. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 02:14, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

My five cents: Migraine + Frustration + Broadhead Arrow = WIN. No really, the amount of 106 numbers over his head when he used a spell with a loooong activation time, made me laugh. Not sure what spell it was and why it wasn't rupted, but the game punished N.O.X. as if he'd been interrupted 30 times or more in a row. I was in the last phase in mere seconds. 84.171.186.75 22:06, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Easy-take with a melee character[edit]

  • Load yourself with a tanking/damage hybrid, Pain Inverter when you got the space (Flashing Blades assassin + Demonic Blood, Derv of choice, Endurance Axe war), take another counterpart hero.
  • Resto necro
  • Spoil victor necro
  • SoGM rit
  • SoS rit
  • two smiters

Basicly get N.O.X. cornered, nuke him with Strength-of-Honored melee, screw him over with Pain Inverter, and have youre heroes enjoy themselves. 82.156.22.85 19:59, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
