Talk:Skill chaining

the example given here is complately awful, why not just change it to ignite arrows + dual shot, to avoid getting skill chaining confused with how to heal party wide pressure as opposed to single target spiking. 87.194.137.198 11:20, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

profession examples section[edit]

This is not a list of most effective or meta skill combinations. It is a list of examples which provide most obvious reasons to skill chaining. Mediggo 16:27, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

I find it hard to believe people actually talked about skill chaining and meaning skill synergy. Aegis chains and ward chains used to be popular back in the day, and never did anyone mean using Price of Failure on combination with Aegis. Koda User Koda Kumi Horns1.GIF 16:38, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
And those examples were pretty bad. I've utilized some of the examples from the related-name quest and used some others to fill in the gaps. --JonTheMon 16:50, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
That is not my point though. Koda User Koda Kumi Horns1.GIF 17:02, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Oh, right. How would you differentiate skill chaining from skill synergy? --JonTheMon 17:08, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
The way I heard it was using multiple copies of a powerful skill with a long recharge time like Aegis or Spell Breaker so that the downtime is minimal. Koda User Koda Kumi Horns1.GIF 17:26, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Huh. I would think of that more as chain casting rather than skill chaining... I suppose I think of the difference as "individual synergy vs team synergy", but that is pretty ambiguous. Hmmm, the skill it's related to says "Then use them in the right order to gain the synergetic effect." So, is it about skill order to achieve synergy? --JonTheMon 18:02, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) What about applying a more specific definition, e.g.:

  • Skill chaining is a single character using two or more skills in a specific order to obtain specific effects or bonuses.
  • Skill synergy is combining two or more skills to enhance their respective impacts.

→ Skill chains are a specific type of synergy: order matters and must be executed by a single toon (usually in rapid succession).
→ Skill synergies exist across the party (not just within a single bar).
→ Some skills require chaining, notably dagger skills.

I also think we don't need an example for every profession; perhaps an obvious dagger chain, a caster chain, and the Shiro-killer elementalist chain. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:30, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
